RIP William Alexander Alves 1956 - 2025
William, owner and co-founder of Glory Days Bikes sadly died on 20/05/2025 in Swindon Critical Care Unit aged 68.
He was out on a lovely bike ride on the morning of 15/05/2025. Nobody witnessed what happened so we can only hazard a guess. He dialled 999 at 13.05 complaining of chest pains. The call got cut short so he must have passed out. He was found by a passer by who called 999 and began CPR. They identified he wasn’t breathing and was in cardiac arrest. He was taken to Hospital and although his heart was restarted, sadly he suffered irreparable brain damage due to lack of oxygen to the brain for over an hour and never woke up.
He was closely involved with all five editions of in the Peak District, from route planning and checking to hiring out hundreds of lovingly restored vintage and classic bicycles. He also attended almost every addition of Velo Retro - The Friendly Festival in Ulverston either as a participant or stall holder. He had also ridden in many other vintage bike events around the world, including Retro Ronde and Eroica Limburg.
He retired a couple of years ago and had closed down Glory Days Bikes and sold off most of the bikes. He was planning to explore more by bike around the world with his wife and partner of 36 years, Carol.
He will be missed but not forgotten by all who loved and knew him. 💔
