According to Brake, the road safety charity, “A pedestrian hit at 30-mph has a very significant (1 in 5) chance of being killed. This rises significantly to a 1 in 3 chance if they are hit at 35-mph. Even small increases in speed can lead to an increase in impact severity.”

The speed limit is the absolute maximum, it doesn’t mean it’s safe to drive at this speed in all conditions.

Going a few miles over the limit is not worth the risk. If you get caught speeding, you could get a fine and 3 points on your licence.

Grass cutting is carefully planned and delivered in phases, and teams will return for a second cut later in the season as part of the wider programme.

Thank you for your patience while our teams are out working across the county.

Summer storms can be intense, with a lot of rain falling in a short period of time, which may sometimes lead to sudden or “flash” flooding. Flash floods are particularly dangerous as they often happen with little to no warning, with deep, fast-moving water. Such flooding is often very localised, but where it does occur, damage and risk to life can sometimes be serious.

You should not attempt to walk or drive through the water. Move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building if it's safe to do so. Call 999 if you need emergency help.
