🇨🇳Reflecting on an incredible time in China with the Topper fleet!🇨🇳

From long race days and challenging conditions to unforgettable memories ashore, events like these are where sailors really grow — not just in results, but in confidence, resilience and race craft.

One thing that stood out all week was that success in the Topper fleet isn’t always about raw speed. The sailors consistently at the front are the ones who:

✅ Prepare properly before launching
✅ Keep calm when races don’t go to plan
✅ Nail the basics consistently
✅ Stay focused across the whole event
✅ Learn something from every race

A few simple tips for sailors looking to improve👇

🔹 Start practice matters — confidence on the line changes everything
🔹 Boat handling wins places — smooth tacks and gybes save metres every race
🔹 Stay hydrated and fuelled — sharp decisions make a huge difference late in the day
🔹 Don’t chase one big result — consistency beats hero moments over a series

The 4.2 fleet have been absolutely flying — big shifts, big smiles, and a leaderboard that’s tighter than ever. After four events and one discard, here’s how things stand:

Current Top 3 (Provisional):
🥇 Jake Day — 6 pts
🥈 Isabelle Simpson — 11 pts
🥉 Audrey Yang — 12 pts

Just behind them, the pressure is on:
4️⃣ Martha Shorter — 12 pts
5️⃣ Freddie Smallwood — 13 pts

Every point matters now heading into NS5 - Grafham Water.

With more racing still to come, nothing is locked in — and this fleet is only getting faster.

Massive thank you to everyone who works hard behind the scenes making sure every event runs smoothly, especially Claire who makes sure everything is just right for us arriving. Also to those that travelled far and wide for the NS events this season 🙌🚗

It’s been amazing having so many of you back on the circuit — and just as special welcoming new sailors into the Topper family.

The standard of racing across both fleets has been incredible, but what I’ve enjoyed most is the conversations at the van… the tactics, the stories, the highs, and even the tough moments. That’s what makes this community so special 💙

Good luck to navigating exams — just remember you’ll be back on the water in no time ⛵️

I can’t wait to see as many of you as possible before Worlds in France 🇫🇷 and the British Nationals in Weymouth 🇬🇧

💥 ITCA Topper National Series – GBR Rankings Update from Topper Russ! ⛵NS4 – Hayling Island Sailing Club | 9–10 May 2026

Hayling… wow.Sunshine, sea breeze, big waves, and classic Hayling conditions delivered an absolute belter of a weekend. NS4 brought fast racing, proper pressure downwind, and more than a few “this is getting spicy” moments out on the racecourse.

And just like that… the rankings table has had another shake-up. 👀

📊 Updated Overall Top 3 (after NS4 – provisional):
🥇 Alex Stainton – Hollowell SC / Draycote Academy
🥈 Adam Green – Lough Erne Yacht Club
🥉 Freya Antonelli - Budworth SC

Four events down now, and consistency is starting to matter just as much as outright speed. From Weymouth’s shifts, Draycote’s survival sailing, Rutland’s breeze, and now Hayling’s waves — the sailors putting together complete scorecards are beginning to edge ahead.

But don’t relax just yet…👉 NS5 – Grafham Water Sailing Club (June) is still to come, and with discards fully in play, there’s still loads to fight for across the fleet. One big weekend can change everything.

Massive thanks to Hayling Island Sailing Club, the volunteers, race team, parents, coaches, and sailors for putting on a brilliant event. Top racing, top venue, top atmosphere. 👏

I’ll be at Grafham with the Topper van full of spares, replacement bits, emergency repairs, rigging fixes, rope cutters… and questionable advice.

🌍⛵ ENTRIES ARE OPEN – TOPPER WORLDS 2026! ⛵🌍

The countdown has begun for the Topper World Championship 2026 in St Pierre Quiberon and entries are now officially open!

The Topper Worlds is one of the only truly open World Championship events where sailors from multiple development stages compete at the same regatta. With three different fleets racing at one championship, it creates huge, seriously competitive fleet racing and an electric international atmosphere.

Sailors travel from all over the world, building friendships, learning about different cultures, and gaining life experiences that go far beyond the racecourse. 🌎🤝

Along the way, young sailors develop incredible life skills, including:
⏱ Time management
🧭 Decision making under pressure
👥 Teamwork and collaboration
🌬 Understanding weather and meteorology📋 Planning and race preparation
💪 Independence and confidence
⭐ Character building and resilience

The Topper pathway has produced some of the world’s leading sailors, including Mickey Beckett, Hannah Mills, Dylan Fletcher, Paul Goodison, Ellie Aldridge, and Flynn Lynch – all of whom started their journeys in grassroots fleet racing just like this.

This is more than a championship ~
It’s where future champions are made.
