Here we go again! Fear not this is far from our first rodeo.
The start of a new renovation and thanks to the sunshine we are able to leave some dust outside and not do all the messy bit in the workshop.

Hire boats can't talk, probably for the best this old girl has so very many stories of how each of these battle scars came to exist!
On a positive spin patching GRP we find quicker and easier replacing planks or welding in new metal.
Hire fleet life.

Everything stripped out, rudder repaired, cutlass bearing changed and a replacement propeller. Not a bad way to end the week, Monday I can start putting it all back together again.

It's a black hand kind of day, last year the focus was engine, fit out and repaint. This year, drive train, we are going to smooth this old girl out with a gearbox refurb, new shaft bearing, new cutlass bearing and I think I have a nicer propeller.
The moth eaten rudder too its not getting replaced as its salvageable but I will cut off the rubbish and weld on some fresh steel.
No pressure but it needs to be back in the water in two weeks.
Last years engine efforts were well worth it, having not been run in two months yesterday with temperatures of around 2 degrees the BMC 1.5 burst into life with ease, its come along way from when I viewed it last February and it wouldn't start, I was told at that time 'year it doesn't start up until April' 😂 she does now.

A bit of fabrication to start the year.
How can you tell this filter and pump was positioned by someone who works on boats rather just builds them?
Answer: it's positioned so you can change it! 😂

We do like a grinder, many things can be sorted with a grinder, I'm not going to say that you can't cut a keyway into a shaft with said tool but I would say if you do try it you will need much more finesse than this effort we found today! 😂
Shaft has now gone away to be machined properly.

Times they are a changing, soon this page name will be changing, the initials that have served me well for 15 years of self employed are set to take a rest.

MBA Marine is rapidly evolving and workshop facilities growing. The Riverbank boating company Ltd will be the new name that takes over all boat building, boat repairs, winter storage and maintenance and as it will always be known as 'John's shed' wooden toys and other curiosity timber items will continue to be produced.

The workshop is not waterside so the size of craft we can work on is restricted to what can be put on a trailer, if you have a boat we can help with please get in touch.

Building of new boats is a passion and we will continue to develop the building side.
