1). schedule.
Set a date in advance and look to book the transport as soon as date is confirmed.
2.) packing.
If you choose to pack you personal and loose items yourself, its never too early to start packing items that you don't use every day, you can never be too organised and make sure to mark boxes so items can be found easily on unpacking.
3.) Hiring/booking
Do research on the removal company you have a quote from.
Too many times people are let down last minute from a man & van found on local advertising.
If it's very cheap it's usually for a reason
Book a high rated local company that you can see previous happy customer reviews on website or business page, everyday is moving day for these guys and they will be experienced to give advice and know how to handle your belongings professionally.
4.) Decluttering
We all have a cupboard at home or shed in garden that is full of items you never really use or should of cleared out a long time ago🤣
Avoid taking unnecessary items you no longer need or use to your new home,
Not only will this give you much needed space in your new home but it could save you money on the move itself.
5.) Furniture
Consider if any furniture may have difficulty fitting into new property,
Some homes may have tight angles on stairs or narrow doors etc that larger furniture will not fit through.
If in doubt take measurements.
6.) Weather.
It's always helpful to consider the weather at time of year you maybe moving home.
If the sun 🌞 is beating down or snow ❄️ is falling weather is something we can plan against so keep a eye on the weather forecast, in very hot and sunny weather consider opening windows to keep property cool, if it's cold and wet have some extra cardboard boxes or floor protection to lay on floor at any entrance to the property to stop floors getting wet with doors open and the coming and goings in and out of property.
Although many companies have protection for floors extra material can never go wrong.
7.) Pets
If you have any pets, make sure they are kept out the way and secure, you will have enough on your mind on moving day without running down street after your beloved pet cause they have ran out a door.
8.) Timing.
Most people want to give the rooms a clean and hoover once they are empty of furniture, keep this in mind if you are cleaning yourself or hiring cleaning company make a plan to clean rooms once emptied of contents.
Sometimes you may have a set time you need to be out of property to collect keys for your new property arrange a time for removal company to arrive that gives plenty of time to empty the contents of the property.
9.) Unpacking
You may not want to unpack everything as soon as you move to your new home so lable boxes with rooms the items were located to make more ease of unpacking.
You may want to start unpacking your boxes as soon as they are coming into the property in this case make sure the removal company knows what rooms the boxes are going into to help with the ease of finding which box should be where.
You can also check with your removal company if they can take away the unpacked cardboard boxes as some will dispose for a small fee.
10.) Refreshments
Most important tip of moving day is,
Always pack the kettle last 🫖
