Ever wondered what a mene was? It was a judgment against the 2 Babylonian rulers “Your days are numbered, Nabonidus and Belshazzar”(mene,mene) A mene (mina) was a weight equivalent to 60 shekels. The expression, mene mene tekel parsin literally translated meant 60 shekels, 60 shekels, a shekel weight (tekel) and parsin is 1/2 shekel. It was also a poetic way to say, you have been measured and found short (the 1/2 shekel) parsin or peres. (peres also meant divided) Here is a 1/2 mina weight at the Louvre. It weighs in at 254grams so how heavy was 2 minas? 🤓 you can do the math! It comes very very close to a standard international measurement we still use up until today, 4000 years later! We are currently preparing for 2026. We recently experienced a rate hike in Louvre prices for foreigners (non-EU) from 22 to 32 euros.
Also a small tour group fee has been implemented and a demand to pay increase guide rates to industry standards will really affect next year’s Bible tours. We will announce the fee increase soon and encourage all to book early if you plan on visiting Paris soon. Please do not purchase a regular Louvre ticket, you will need a special small group ticket and there are currently only 3 licensed guides available that can conduct your visit so please DM me to check our availability.
