CVA The CVA brings together European cities & firms working in European space transportation.

The Community of Ariane Cities – CVA – was founded in 1998 and registered in France as a non-profit association, with the aim of strengthening the cooperation among cities and industrial organizations involved in European space transportation programmes, and informing citizens about the benefits of European space transportation activities and about French Guiana as the home to Europe’s Spaceport. CVA organizes programmes with member cities, their universities, educational authorities, schools and industrial companies. The joint programmes are of technical, cultural, educational and outreach nature, stressing the importance of intercultural cooperation, and helping to build longstanding relationships among citizens, especially the younger generations. Each city is usually represented by its local or regional administration, and by an industrial company. Programmes are decided through consensus of the members, who meet as Council of Mayors, the decision-making body chaired by a different city every one or two years. Programme implementation and daily operations are the responsibility of a Bureau and a General Delegation office.

A small Italian town near Rome helps power Europe's launchers from the ground up.

Meet Colleferro, home of Avio, prime contractor of Vega-C, Europe's light launcher.
Avio produces the P120C solid motor, Vega-C's first stage 🇮🇹
The same P120C is also the basis of Ariane 6's boosters.
Together, Colleferro and Avio form a member tandem of the Community of Ariane Cities ✨

Every plant on Earth glows a little when it photosynthesizes. You can't see it. FLEX can.

FLEX is ESA's 8th Earth Explorer mission, and it just reached orbit on September 14 alongside Sentinel-3C. Its FLORIS instrument detects that faint fluorescence and turns it into a global map of vegetation health, helping scientists understand how ecosystems respond to stress, drought, and environmental change, from space.

It's a reminder of how much of the space industry isn't about rockets at all, it's biology, optics, climate science, and data, all working together.

🚀 Rome on board Vega-C VV30!

As part of the CVA City–Launcher Partnership programme, the Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale sponsored the Vega-C VV30 launch, in partnership with Avio.

The City–Launcher Partnership is a CVA programme that gives its member cities the opportunity to sponsor a European launcher mission and have their logo displayed on the launcher’s fairing.

For VV30, the logo of the Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale travelled all the way to space aboard Vega-C, a particularly meaningful partnership as Vega-C is also produced by Avio in Colleferro, within the metropolitan area of Rome.

Pierluigi Sanna, Vice Mayor of the Città Metropolitana di Roma Capitale and Vice-President of the CVA, together with Stefano Carta, Director of Economic Affairs of the Metropolitan City, travelled to Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou to attend the launch.

A great way to highlight the strong connection between European space cities, their territories and Europe’s launchers. 🚀🇪🇺

There's a satellite in orbit right now whose only job is to check on the planet.

Sentinel-3C launched on September 14 aboard Vega C, and it's now part of the Copernicus fleet, the system that tracks Europe's land, oceans, ice, and atmosphere in near real time. It was built by Thales Alenia Space, weighs 1,140 kg, and carries five different scientific instruments. It's also the 5th Copernicus satellite to fly on a Vega-family launcher.

This is what a real space career can look like: not just building rockets, but building the instruments that watch our planet from above.

What part of this would you want to work on: the satellite, the instruments, or the launcher?

Right now, two new satellites are circling Earth at 810 km and they left from a spaceport most people couldn't point to on a map.

On September 14, Vega C lifted off from Kourou carrying Sentinel-3C and FLEX toward a Sun-Synchronous Orbit. In under two hours, 1,540 kg of European technology went from the launch pad to working satellites. This was the 7th flight of Vega C and the 360th launch by Arianespace, another quiet proof that Europe builds and controls its own path to space.

Behind every one of these missions is a network of cities, universities, and industries most people never hear about. That network is exactly what CVA connects.

Comment 🚀 if you caught the launch (or wish you had).

🚀 Mission accomplished !

In the early hours of September 15, Vega-C lifted off from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana, carrying two European Earth observation satellites into orbit: Sentinel-3C, for the European Commission's Copernicus programme, and FLEX, ESA's new mission to map plant photosynthesis from space for the first time. Both satellites were built by Thales Alenia Space.

Operated by Avio, this was Vega-C's second flight of the year and a milestone for the whole Vega family: the 30th Vega launch since the rocket's maiden flight from French Guiana in 2012, the 8th for the Vega-C variant, and the 6th orbital launch from Europe's Spaceport in 2026 alone.

One rocket, two satellites, one clearer view of our planet : its oceans, its ice, its land, and now, for the first time, the very breath of its vegetation.

👉 Which mission are you most curious about: Sentinel-3C's climate and ocean data, or FLEX's first-ever fluorescence maps of photosynthesis?

A beautiful moment in Liège and a reminder of why we do what we do. 🏆

Last Thursday, the prestigious "Prix Vega de la Ville de Liège" was awarded to two outstanding students at the Athénée Léonie de Waha, in a ceremony made even more special by the celebration of 80 years of Italian immigration in Belgium.

Two young talents recognised for their scientific excellence:
🔬 Evelyne Lallemand : Prix de la curiosité scientifique
📐 Emile Boogaerts : Prix de la critique scientifique

Each student received a Vega-C mock-up, a book recounting the history of Avio, and two comic books offered by the City of Liège.

Emile will soon begin engineering studies at university, with one clear ambition: to become a space engineer. Seeing his face light up when receiving the Vega-C model made the moment unforgettable.

Since 2008, this prize has been awarded in close partnership with CVA, Arianespace and ArianeGroup. This year, with Vega taking centre stage, it shone a well-deserved spotlight on a programme that has been at the heart of European space access for decades.

To Evelyne and Emile, the European space industry needs people like you. This is just the beginning. 🚀
