// A new level of gratitude has been reached this year with the addition of this little angel. I already can’t type, I’m getting too emotional. It’s true what everyone says about having kids, so I won’t repeat it. He’s the reason I’m on Instagram way less than I was in years past, and I’m ever grateful that my perspective has shifted away from cyberspace and back to what matters. 🤎🧡 A very Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans and those joining in the celebration. 📸:

// Perusing my flashbacks in my phone and I discovered that 4 years ago today Monsieur 💙 proposed to me while we were visiting this beautiful château, le Château de Chenonceau. 🏰 He told me he had wanted to do it here because it’s his favorite château. What a French thing to say! 😂 I was clueless about what was about to happen but it all made sense in the end after he rushed me through the inside where are the pretty 🎄🎄decorations were. 😆 He is usually very patient with my stops to take photos every 20 steps, but not that day. 😅 I never thought such a stunning and historic place would be part of my story but life is full of surprises, isn’t it?

// Fun afternoon spent here yesterday. And just look at the *gezellig* scene that awaits you when you come through the gate. So much fun laughing and carrying on with girlfriends in a pretty setting… before we knew it it was dark outside and the twinkle lights were on. ✨🌘

// Anyone else miss Notre Dame? It used to be a staple on my Paris walks, perfectly situated there in the heart of the city. Now you can’t even access the garden on the back side. 😒 The day it all reopens will be such a joyous day. ⛪️

// Mums looking 👌🏼💛🧡 in the Jardin du Luxembourg. I find fall is not rushing this year, and I’m really enjoying it. I may have already shopped for Christmas decor and watched The Holiday this week, but I’m perfectly happy to keep soaking up the yellows and oranges before reds and greens take over. Plus, I really love those fallen leaves 🍂🍂 in the water… it reminds me of Amsterdam canals filled with yellow leaves, and I miss that so much.

// Strolling this afternoon in Jardin des Tuileries 🍁🚲🍂

I was telling a friend yesterday that I often have Instagram caption inspiration at the oddest times. I compose thoughtful and even, occasionally, brilliant ✨ captions that have nothing to do with any photo I would share and then proceed to either forget the masterpiece 😜 entirely or totally chicken out and not post. Tonight is a case of chickening 🐔 out on a rant that will probably come out sooner than later. 🤪 Is this what vaguebooking is?

// Happy Halloween, friends! 🎃 I used to go to Père Lachaise cemetery every year around this time for a nice fall stroll. Is that weird? To enjoy a stroll in a cemetery? 🪦⚰️ I haven’t done it now for a couple of years but I have some lovely images from past wanders there, this one from all the way back in 2015 just three days before moving back to the Netherlands. Fun fact about Père Lachaise cemetery: although it’s miles away on the other side of town, you can see the Eiffel Tower from it. 🔍

// The house hunt has officially begun… again. ❤️🏡

It’s been some time now that I’ve been eager to move outside of Paris. Add newly bulging terrasses and to the big city scene, and I just don’t love it anymore like I used to. I have bruises on my legs from picking up the stroller so often because escalators and elevators are so often “en panne” (out of order) or not even present here. It’s all good, though. I’ve always looked forward to the home search process, thanks to my dad. He taught me so much about real estate and I’ve loved learning about house features from a young age. A favorite pastime of mine is to critique houses as I’m driving by and announce what needs to be changed to give them better curb appeal. 😆🏡 What’s interesting about French homes is that they are often hidden behind gates and bushes and maybe even a long driveway. When we walked up to this house today I was wholly unimpressed by its nondescript white 2-window façade. However the tour started in the back, where the patio has an expansive view onto Paris, the table setting had all the Provençal vibes of A Good Year, and I spotted grapes 🍇 dangling from the pergola. As we walked up from the grassy section, I saw that this French house was in fact the epitome of most American francophiles love all covered in fiery red autumn leaves. 🍁🍁🍁 So what do you think? Would you move in?

The Falling Off Bicycles Story

I have always been attracted to color, to light, to beautiful details. Who isn’t?

However, it wasn’t until I moved to Paris and then Amsterdam that I found myself having to have a camera with me at all times to capture the way these cities had mastered each of these things in their own unique way. I fell in love with the richness of cultures, the stories the streets tell, the characters I would encounter, the bicycles, the bridges, the waterways, and so much more. What good fortune I had, as my walks to the market and around town were filled with new surprises every day: a unique bike coordinating perfectly with the nearby bouquet of tulips, a waving Dutch flag on a boat passing under an Amsterdam bridge, a golden glow around the Eiffel Tower… It was all so romantic and charming, I just had to capture it.

My bicycle added to the experience, as it increased my reach outside my little quartier or buurt. I found myself with an immense desire to share this beauty I find all around me in Europe with my friends and family, and eventually with a larger audience.

In 2012, I had an undeniable urge to make this happen… to share the lovely scenes I have been privy to over the years, the scenes that mesmerize and charm visitors and locals alike. The result: Falling Off Bicycles.
