This remote island hosts a close-knit community of just 264 residents.

Tristan da Cunha belongs to an archipelago situated in the South Atlantic Ocean, lying approximately 2,400 kilometers (1,500 miles) from its nearest neighbor, Saint Helena. It is also about 2,800 kilometers (1,750 miles) from South Africa and more than 3,200 kilometers (2,000 miles) from South America. Despite its extreme remoteness, the island supports a small population of 260 to 270 people, most of whom reside in the village of "Edinburgh of the Seven Seas."

As a British overseas territory, Tristan da Cunha's residents are descendants of a few families who settled there in the 1800s. The community thrives through subsistence farming and fishing, with a small amount of trade and tourism. Islanders are celebrated for their resilience and self-reliance, though they depend on periodic supply ships and communications with the outside world.

Renowned for its volcanic origins, the island is dominated by a central peak soaring over 2,000 meters (6,700 feet) above sea level. While its natural beauty is undeniable, life on Tristan da Cunha is anything but easy, characterized by isolation, unpredictable weather, and limited infrastructure. With no airport, reaching the island requires a multi-day sea journey from the nearest port.
