🌞 Today, once again, humanity witness a total solar eclipse.

For centuries, these few minutes of darkness have been far more than a spectacle: they have provided unique opportunities for scientific discovery and progress. In 1868, an eclipse allowed astronomers to identify the signature of helium in the solar spectrum — an element that would only be discovered on Earth 27 years later. In 1919, the total eclipse of 29 May provided one of the first great observational tests of Einstein’s theory of general relativity, through the apparent deflection of starlight by the Sun.

There is something rather fitting in all of this for those of us connected to the sea. For mariners, astronomy and the study of the heavens have always been synonymous with crucial advances. The observation of the stars, the Sun and the Moon has been an integral part of navigation and, in many ways, of the very history of seafaring.

And there is another rather connection: cork — such a humble, earthly material — has found its way into the story of astronomy and space exploration. It has been used in historic astronomical instruments, but also as thermal protection in spacecraft and launch vehicles, including NASA’s SLS for the Artemis programme.

An eclipse, ultimately, is more than just a shadow passing across the Earth: it is an invitation to look at the world — and perhaps ourselves — differently. 🌑☀️

**English:**

Cork has always belonged to the sea, quietly shaping nautical history. ⚓

Natural yet engineered, it turns timeless material into modern performance. 🍾

From legendary motor yachts to today's finest vessels, our cork finds its place. ✨

Each project tells its own story, never a repeat performance.
