I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and despite lots of frustration this year and that in addition many of us have to celebrate differently this end of the year, let's be thankful for what we have and try to see the essence of life!
To a better 2021 and that we stay strong and together and together strong!
And let's not forget to laugh!
A memory that still does it for me !

The perfect St Nikolaus 6th December!

ST NIKOLAUS AND KRAMPUS - AN ALPINE CHRISTMAS DUO! 6th of December is for many of us the day where Christmas period childhood memories come alive!
No matter where I am and what I do, for example last year sharing this day with my Rick Steves group in Salzburg in Austria, the memories of excitement of that day come back. That year the night of the 5th of December the whole group of adults put their shoes in front of the hotel room doors and waited patiently until the next morning. SANKT NIKOLAUS had received letters about all of them and was told that they were good last year and so he filled their shoes with goodies.
Not one needed to be reminded to do better next year by the KRAMPUS, the counter part of good ST NIKOLAUS. The KRAMPUS visits the children that were not good and chases them through the streets (this is an Alpine tradition and a figure we are particular familiar with in Bavaria, Tyrol and other areas in the Alps)
Our group had the chance though to participate at the KRAMPUS run and to admire the hand made masks and to understand better my childhood trauma of the Krampus ;)

Watch how Santons are (hand) made, the clay figures that populate the traditional Nativity scenes of Pronvence. Denis, of the "Les 3 Souquets" in Seguret, one of the few Santon masters will lead us step by step through the process of making.

Today is first Advent Sunday, the first candle on the wreath is lit up. Vivid childhood memories of my home town Munich at Christmas time come back ... Did you have a wreath at home?..
And for others it is Santons ... Do you know Santons? If you want to know why in Provence we have a baker, a wine maker, a drummer, a grand father, a goose and many more "every day life Provencals" flocking in and through Nativity scenes of the regions homes, then join Denis and me tomorrow (30th of November 9AM (PCT)) for a (pre recorded) video on the making of SANTONS, the traditional Christmas clay figures of Provence.

I miss strolling the Christmas markets this year! I miss huddling close together with my friends in one of the gemuetliche chalets, with cold hands, feets and nose, while holding a warm cup of Gluehwein in my hand. I miss tasting together with my groups my way through one two three Lebkuchen and other cookies to find our favorite ones on the markets!
