Hornvík stopover — Edge of the Arctic 🌊
A quiet stopover in Hornvík, tucked deep in the north of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve — one of Iceland’s most remote and untouched corners. No roads, no crowds, just raw nature.
We took the dinghy ashore and were welcomed by orcas passing through the bay — a fleeting but unforgettable moment.
A walk inland led us to a waterfall, cutting through the cliffs and into the silence that defines this place.
A perfect last pit stop before heading to the final destination of this northern sailing adventure.

Sailing North — Siglufjörður to Hornvík 🌊
150 nautical miles at sea.
From Siglufjörður to Hornvík, under clear skies and calm conditions — the kind of sail you don’t rush.
Hours slipping by with the rhythm of the ocean. Knitting moments for our favorite Matelot Marie, quiet moments for our first mate Ancelin, time to just be… for everyone onboard.
As night fell, our fishermen Jay and Odin throw lines in the water — a bit of cod fishing under the fading light.
Life aboard in the North Arctic: slow, simple, and exactly where we want to be.

Arrival in Iceland — Landfall in Siglufjörður ❄️

Welcome to the land of fjords. We hiked through snow-covered trails, our boots crunching with every step, surrounded by pure silence and wild, white beauty.
Along the way, we stumbled upon a small open hut, the kind you dream of finding in places like this. So naturally, we came back that night.
Hot dogs on the grill, beers in hand, laughter echoing into the cold air, and s’mores for dessert.
A little butt sliding (mandatory), some improvised snow skateboarding, and an outdoor hot pool under the open sky (thanks to ).
Just a quick stop before continuing west, along the north coast of Iceland, sailing near the Arctic Circle.

Faroe Islands to Iceland passage ❄️⛵️🌙
Five hundred nautical miles of pure bliss across the North Atlantic. Calm and steady conditions carried Lola northward, all the way to the Arctic Circle. Nights were magical — sailing under a bright full moon, clear skies above us, and the northern lights quietly dancing across the horizon.
Landfall came in Siglufjörður, tucked deep into a narrow fjord on Iceland’s northern coast. Once the herring capital of the Atlantic and one of the busiest fishing towns in the country, today it’s a peaceful harbour surrounded by steep mountains, a place where the sea and it’s history are still deeply felt.
A beautiful arrival after a truly unforgettable passage.

A school visit, Faroese style 📚 🏫 ⛵️
One morning over breakfast in the saloon, the whole crew still in their pajamas, joking that Caribe might just show up with her whole class for a visit. Not long after, voices and footsteps on deck… and suddenly a group of kids was hopping aboard Lola.
Caribe had mentioned the idea to her teacher — and just like that, on a rainy and windy cold winter day, the class walked down from the school in Miðvágur for a spontaneous boat visit.
No parental special form permissions, no fuss, just curiosity and trust.
It says so much about the spirit of the Faroese school system — relaxed, real, and rooted in freedom. And you can see it in the children: confident, open, independent, and completely at ease in the world around them. 🌧️⛵️

Faroe Islands stopover 4 ⚓️ A hike around Sørvágsvatn Lake, leading us toward the Bøsdalafossur waterfall and up to Trælanípa above Miðvágur. Yet another breathtaking Faroese landscape — cliffs, vast skies, and the illusion of the lake floating high above the ocean.
After so much time living closely onboard, it felt good to stretch our legs together, breathe deep, and explore on foot. Moments like these — shared effort, shared views — are what make this voyage unforgettable.

Faroe Islands stopover 4 ⚓️ A short but unforgettable sail from Tórshavn to Miðvágur, on the island of Vágar. Just a few hours at sea, yet easily one of the most scenic passages of the voyage — steep slopes plunging straight into the ocean, low clouds drifting over the peaks and, now and then, revealing sheep grazing high on the hillsides. All the while, the raw North Atlantic rolled in against Lola’s bow.
At the dock, Billy and Dorthea — dear friends of Jay and Natasha — were there to welcome the crew. There’s nothing better than arriving in a new harbour and being greeted by familiar smiles.

Faroe Islands stopover 3 ⚓️ A full week in Tórshavn, on the island of Streymoy — our longest Faroese pause so far. Thanks to our friends aboard the mainsail is flying strong again.
Between repairs and marina days, we hiked to Kirkjubøur, browsed for wool, shared knitting sessions, stretched through yoga while the laundry spun, spent slow afternoons reading in cafés, and sampled a few lively evenings at the local bars.
A little taste of city life, Faroe-style — before pointing Lola’s bow north once more.
