Qaqi Mai: Bike Share welcomes the recent announcement by Fiji Government, through Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau , introducing $๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฒ๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฐ๐๐ฐ๐น๐ฒ ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐.
This is an important step for Fiji.
For a long time, bicycle lanes were there, but not always respected. Now, the Government is making it clear that these lanes are ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฐ๐๐ฐ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐, and they must be kept clear.
The Minister also raised two key points:
โ The ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ of enforcement when officers have to respond and tow vehicles
โ The role of the ๐ฝ๐๐ฏ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฆ code 582 ๐๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ๐บ๐
This shows that keeping bicycle lanes clear is not only Government work, it is something ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐ ๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต.

When a vehicle blocks a bicycle lane:
โ Cyclists are forced onto the main road
โ That puts them in danger
โ Many people will stop riding because they feel unsafe
So this rule is not just about fines.
Every time someone blocks a lane:
โ Officers must come
โ Time is used
โ Sometimes vehicles must be towed
This means extra cost on the system.

Government has asked the public to report through SMS. Qaqi Mai supports this. But we are also asking people to go one step further.

Qaqi Mai is calling on the public to help raise awareness:
If you see a vehicle blocking a bicycle lane:
โ Take a photo
โ Post it on social media
โ Tag Qaqi Mai: Bike Share
โ Or share it in our Qaqi Mai: Bike Share Facebook Group
This is not about attacking people.
It is about helping everyone understand that
Right now, many people are still learning:
โ What bicycle lanes are for
โ Why they are important
โ Why they must be respected
So we must work together:
โ Government โ to enforce
โ Qaqi Mai โ to support and educate
โ Public โ to help spread awareness

The organisation stresses that this is not about shaming individuals, but about helping more people understand that bicycle lanes are meant to be kept clear.

Qaqi Mai believes that enforcement alone will not be enough. Education and awareness must grow at the same time, as many people are still learning what bicycle lanes are for and why they matter.
The organisation says the country is now starting to see the pieces come together, policy discussions, real use of bicycles on the ground, and now enforcement to support it.

Qaqi Mai reiterated its support for the Governmentโs direction and called for continued cooperation between authorities and the public to build a safer and more practical transport system for the country.
