Summer is slowly turning into autumn, so we would love to share a few updates from the reindeer farm.
Although we’ve had a chance to rest and recover a little from the busy winter season, the summer hasn’t been all about taking it easy. In May, we had the calves ear-marked here at home, made a record amount of leaf fodder, harvested hay, repaired fences, sleighs and harnesses, and did a little renovation here and there.
Now that autumn is approaching, we’ve also started putting up an old log cabin that was taken down from the edge of our land in the spring. Over the years, it had seen very little use, but it will now get a new life at farm. This little cabin will make a lovely, cosy space for hosting small lunch and dinner groups at the farm.
This year, we got our winter activities on sale nice and early, already in June, and we’ve already received plenty of bookings, especially for December. We’re hoping to start the reindeer sleigh rides at the end of November, but that’s really in the hands of nature. We’ll need suitable early-winter conditions, a little snow and just the right amount of frost.
The autumn foliage visits are starting next week and they have already been booked quite nicely. We have little less private groups than in previous years, but based on the bookings we currently have, we will be honoured to run our regular farm visits nearly every day.
For the approaching winter season we ate heading with a great team, including a few new faces alongside many familiar ones who have been with us for years. Some of our sleigh reindeer have already made their own way back home from their summer pastures, and the good mushroom season has done wonders for their condition.
