🇫🇮 Today is Finland’s Independence Day 🇫🇮
Finland gained independence in 1917 and Finnhorse has been an important part of keeping that independence. In Winter War (1939-1940) there were up to 72 000 Finnhorses serving in the war, and 45 000 in the Continuation War (1941-1944). Finnhorses were used to haul equipment like cannons, ammunition and food and also take wounded soldiers back from the front lines. They were an irreplaceable asset since they were quiet compared to cars and could pass terrains that a car never could have. Most horses were taken to serve from common people like farmers and many horses never made it back home.
Though Finnhorses today have it easier than their ancestors they still have the same determination and grit!
