Metsä kätkee edelleen salaisuuksia. 🌲

Porvoossa on metsä, johon liittyy yksi Suomen synkistä henkirikosmysteereistä. Jari Aaltonen murhattiin yli 20 vuotta sitten ja hänen uskotaan tulleen haudatuksi tähän metsään. Ruumiista ei kuitenkaan laajoista etsinnöistä huolimatta ole löytynyt jälkeäkään.
Myöhemmin samassa metsässä murhattiin Sami Huhtimo.

Poliisi on lisäksi etsinyt alueelta merkkejä Volkan Ünsalin ruumiista.

Lähdin metallinetsimen kanssa tutkimaan metsää – enkä todellakaan osannut odottaa, mitä löytäisin maan päältä ilman etsintä.

Maan alta: hylsyjä, erilaisia metalliesineitä. Ja sitten… maan päältä – ison reisiluun näköinen luu.

Onko kyse eläimen luusta? Todennäköisesti. M***a siinä hetkessä metsä tuntui yhtäkkiä aivan erilaiselta.

Ja tämä oli vasta ensimmäinen etsintäkerta. 👀

Mitä kaikkea tästä metsästä vielä löytyy?

This forest is still hiding secrets. 🌲

In Porvoo, Finland, there is a forest connected to one of Finland’s darkest murder mysteries.

Jari Aaltonen was murdered more than 20 years ago and is believed to have been buried somewhere in this forest. Despite extensive searches, his body has never been found.

Police have also searched the area for evidence connected to Volkan Ünsal, who is believed to have possibly been buried in the same forest.

I went into the woods with a metal detector – and I honestly didn’t expect to find what was waiting underground.

Shell casings. Small metal objects. And then… a large bone that appeared to be a thigh bone.

Could it simply be an animal bone? There’s no way to know from the video alone. But finding it definitely made the forest feel very different.

And this was only my first search.

Mitä jos pieni metalliesine voisi kertoa yhden ihmisen tarinan yli 200 vuoden takaa?

Tämä matkaikoni löytyi Porvoon lähistöltä. Se on kulkenut jonkun mukana aikana, jolloin Suomi oli osa Venäjän keisarikuntaa.

Se on todennäköisesti venäläinen Pyhää Nikolaosta esittävä matkaikoni 1700-luvun lopulta tai 1800-luvun alusta. Tällaisia ikoneita kantoivat mukanaan niin sotilaat, kauppiaat kuin muutkin matkustajat.

Ikoni oli henkilökohtainen suojelija, uskon symboli ja ehkä ainoa esine, joka muistutti kantajaansa kodista pitkien matkojen aikana.

Arviolta noin kahden sadan vuoden jälkeen se nousi jälleen päivänvaloon – samasta paikasta, johon sen omistaja sen joskus menetti.

Juuri tällaiset löydöt tekevät metallinetsinnästä kiehtovaa. Jokainen löytö voi olla pieni pala jonkun oikean ihmisen elämää.

What if a small metal object could tell the story of a single person from more than 200 years ago?

This small travel icon was discovered near Porvoo, Finland. It once belonged to someone who carried it during the time when Finland was part of the Russian Empire.

It wasn’t just an ornament.

It was a personal protector, a symbol of faith, and perhaps the only object that reminded its owner of home during long journeys.

After an estimated two centuries beneath the earth, it finally emerged into the light again—from the very place where its owner once lost it.

These are the discoveries that make metal detecting so fascinating. Every find has the potential to reveal a small piece of a real person’s life.

Mitä rannalla tapahtui helmikuussa 1918?

Itä-Uudellamaalla sijaitsevan kapean merensalmen rannalta löytyi metallinpaljastimella pieniä m***a pysäyttäviä jälkiä Suomen sisällissodasta.

Punaisille kuuluneelta rannalta löytyi mm.

🔸 5 kpl japanilaisen Arisaka-kiväärin hylsyjä
🔸 tyhjä Arisaka-patruunakampa
🔸 univormun nappi
🔸 isokokoinen sotilastyylinen solki

Täällä punaiset ajoivat valkoisia takaa, ja vastakkaiset rintamalinjat tulittivat toisiaan kapean salmen yli.

Luonnolliset ampumasuojat kuten puiden ja suurten kivien taustat oli syytä tutkia tarkasti. Ja niiden takaa löytyi todisteita taistelusta.

Kun nostaa maasta yli sata vuotta vanhan hylsyn, siinä hetkessä miettii, kuka on ollut tässä taistelemassa vuonna 1918.


What happened on the shore in February 1918?

On the shore of a narrow sea strait in Eastern Uusimaa, Finland, a metal detector revealed small but striking traces of the Finnish Civil War.

On the shore held by the Reds, I found:

🔸 5 spent casings from Japanese Arisaka rifles
🔸 an empty Arisaka cartridge clip
🔸 a uniform button
🔸 a large military-style buckle

This is where the Reds pursued the Whites, and the opposing sides exchanged fire across the narrow strait.

Natural cover, such as the areas behind trees and large rocks, was worth examining carefully. And behind them, I found evidence of the fighting.

When you pull a casing from the ground that has been there for more than a hundred years, you can’t help but wonder: who was here fighting in 1918?

Kuljimme Neuvostoliiton 44. divisioonan pakoreitillä Raatteentien korpimetsissä. (Osa 2)

Metsä kätkee edelleen tarinoita lähes 90 vuoden takaa. Tällä kertaa löytyi esineitä, joita Puna-armeijan sotilaat heittivät pois paetessaan - tai käyttivät takaa-ajajiaan vastaan.

We explored the retreat route of the Soviet 44th Rifle Division in the remote forests along the Raate Road.

Nearly 90 years later, these woods still hold the stories of the Winter War. This time, we uncovered items that Red Army soldiers either discarded during their retreat—or may have used against the Finnish troops pursuing them.

Tällä sivulla oli hetken aikaa nähtävillä video vuoden 1939 puna-armeijan Nagant-revolverista, joka on löytynyt Suomussalmen taistelupaikoilta.

Facebook jäädytti tämän tilin melko pian julkaisun jälkeen, tästä syystä video piti poistaa. Ilmeisesti Facebookin yhteisönormit (aitous, turvallisuus, yksityisyys ja arvokkuus) eivät täyttyneet videon osalta, vaikka sen tarkoitus on pelkästään historiallisen esineen esittely.

Mitä saksalaiset jättivät jälkeensä Suomussalmen metsiin?

Lähdimme etsimään jatkosodan aikaisten saksalaisten joukkojen jälkiä metallinilmaisimen kanssa.

Matkan varrelta löytyi räjähtäneiden ammusten sirpaleita alueelta, jossa saksalaisten ammusvarasto räjähti heidän vetäytyessään. Yhdessä sirpaleessa oli yhä nähtävissä saksalainen kotkaleima.
Yksi erikoisimmista löydöistä oli vanha radioaktiivista hammastahnaa sisältänyt tuubi – muistutus siitä, miten erilaisia tuotteita aikanaan käytettiin.

Kävimme myös saksalaisten vankityövoimalla rakennetulla rautatiellä ja metsän peittämässä vankityöleirissä.

Jokainen signaali voi johdattaa pieneen palaan historiaa.

What did the Germans leave behind in the forests of Suomussalmi?

We set out with our metal detectors to search for traces of German troops from the Continuation War.

Along the way, we found fragments of exploded ammunition in an area where a German ammunition depot was blown up during the retreat. One fragment still bore the German eagle emblem.

One of the most unusual finds was an old tube that had once contained radioactive toothpaste—a reminder of how different some everyday products were in the past.

We also explored a railway built using forced labor under German control, as well as an abandoned labor camp now reclaimed by the forest.

Every signal has the potential to lead to another small piece of history.

⚠️ Warning: Former military sites may still contain dangerous unexploded ordnance. If you discover a suspicious object, do not touch or move it. Leave the area, keep a safe distance, and notify the authorities.

Yksi elämäni pysäyttävimmistä metallinilmaisinlöydöistä.

Etsimen kuulokkeissa kuului melko voimakas rautasignaali, kun vastaan tuli talvisodan aikainen, mitä todennäköisimmin venäläinen M1914-varsikäsikranaatti.

Tällaiset hetket muistuttavat siitä, että historia ei ole vain museoissa – sitä löytyy edelleen maaperästä. Samalla ne muistuttavat myös siitä, että vuosikymmeniä vanhat räjähteet voivat olla edelleen vaarallisia.

⚠️ Jos löydät epäilyttävän räjähteen:
• Älä koske siihen enempää kuin on välttämätöntä.
• Älä puhdista, siirrä tai kuljeta sitä.
• Merkitse löytöpaikka turvallisesti.
• Poistu riittävän etäälle ja ilmoita löydöstä hätänumeroon 112. Viranomaiset arvioivat tilanteen ja huolehtivat räjähteen turvallisesta käsittelystä.

One of the most unforgettable metal detecting finds of my life.

A strong iron signal came through my headphones, and moments later I uncovered what appears to be a Russian M1914 stick gr***de dating back to the Winter War.

Discoveries like this are a reminder that history isn’t confined to museums—it still lies beneath our feet. They also remind us that explosives buried for decades can still be dangerous.

⚠️ If you ever come across a suspected explosive device:
• Do not touch it any more than absolutely necessary.
• Do not clean, move, or transport it.
• Mark the location from a safe distance.
• Leave the area and report the find to the emergency services. The authorities will assess the situation and ensure it is handled safely.

Mitä venäläisten pakoreitiltä löytyy yli 80 vuotta myöhemmin? 🤔

Lähdimme metallinilmaisimen kanssa tutkimaan Suomussalmen korpimaastoja – aluetta, jossa historia on yhä läsnä. Jokainen piippaus voi kertoa tarinan talvisodan tapahtumista ja sotilaista, jotka kulkivat näitä metsiä pitkin.

What can still be found along the Soviet retreat route more than 80 years later? 🤔

We took our metaldetectors into the surrounding forests of Suomussalmi—ground that still holds the echoes of the Winter War. Every signal could uncover a forgotten piece of history and tell the story of those who once passed through these woods.

Viimeaikaisia löytöjä
1. Katariina Suuren (kolikoksi todella suuri, liki 50 grammaa painava) 5 kopeekkaa vuodelta 1794. Kolikkoa kutsutaan ihan syystäkin piparkakuksi, onhan se miltei piparkakun kokoinen.
2. 2 kopeekkaa 1819, jossa hyvin säilynyt kotkakuvio
3. Ruotsin vallan aikainen 1/4 äyriä 1644–1660. Vuosiluvun pitäisi näkyä yläreunassa kruunun molemmin puolin, m***a siitä ei saa selvää. Sen sijaan arvo 1/4 näkyy hyvin kolikon vasemmassa reunassa.
Vuosisadat märässä savipellossa jättävät kuparikolikkoon jälkensä.
4. Kruunukuvioinen nappi. Taustapuolella teksti Buch,
St. Petersburg. Venäjän keisarikunnan aikainen sotilasunivormun nappi.
5. Keskiaikaista hopeakolikkoa sateisessa mullassa muistuttanut pullonkorkki.

Some recent finds
1. Huge 5 kopecks from 1794
2. 2 kopecks from 1819 with a clear eagle
3. Toasted swedish 1/4 copper öre from 1644-1660.
4. A button with crown. On the back side reads Buch, St. Petersburg. A uniform button from Russian empire
5. This looked like a medieval coin in the rain and mud.
But unfortunately it is a bottle cap i.e. crap.
