🇬🇧 Shall we talk about hide etiquette for a moment?

A big thank you to all our guests who have already visited our hides, and also to those of you planning a trip to experience the wildlife of Lieksa. ❤️

We would like to highlight a few important guidelines to help make your visit as enjoyable, safe, and rewarding as possible.

🐾 1. Bookings and arrival
Summer is our busiest season, and we aim to respond to booking requests within two days. All bookings are confirmed separately and remain valid until the agreed date unless cancelled by you.

All hide visits begin at the Keljänpuro cabin, where guests are met and guided to the hides. For safety reasons, and to avoid disturbing wildlife, it is not permitted to go to the hides independently.

🤫 2. Silence is your best friend
Please try to keep noise to a minimum while in the hides. Quiet conversation or whispering is usually fine, especially when visiting with friends or a group, but louder noises may scare animals away before anyone has a chance to observe or photograph them.

🍽️ 3. Food and scents
Food is included in the price of your hide visit, and we are happy to accommodate special dietary requirements when informed at the time of booking.

If you choose to bring your own snacks, please avoid strongly scented foods and noisy packaging. The same applies to perfumes and other strong scents.

🚫 4. Do not feed the animals
Guests must never leave food for wildlife. Feeding animals is strictly prohibited.

🌙 5. Staying in the hide
Guests must remain in the hide until the agreed departure time in the morning. Leaving without permission not only creates a safety risk but may also scare wildlife away from the area for the remainder of your visit, affecting both your experience and that of other guests.

📸 6. What is provided in the hides?
The hides are equipped with mattresses, pillows, blankets, and dry toilets. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, or one can be rented from us.

Camera mounting screws are provided, and some hides also have bean bags available. Cameras can be attached using a tripod head, with ball heads and video heads being the most suitable options. A full-size tripod is generally not needed and will not fit comfortably in most photography hides.

🌿 7. A few final tips
With these simple guidelines, we hope your hide visit will be as successful and enjoyable as possible. Thank you for respecting nature, wildlife, and your fellow guests.

Kiitos kaikille vieraillemme – sekä teille, jotka olette jo kokeneet Lieksan luonnon kojuiltamme käsin, että teille, jotka vasta suunnittelette vierailua. ❤️

Haluaisimme muistuttaa muutamasta tärkeästä käytännöstä, jotta vierailu olisi mahdollisimman onnistunut, turvallinen ja elämyksellinen kaikille.

🐾 1. Varaus ja saapuminen
Kesä on vilkkainta sesonkia, ja vastaamme varauspyyntöihin yleensä kahden päivän sisällä. Varaus vahvistetaan aina erikseen.

Kaikki kojureissut alkavat Keljänpuron kämpältä, josta opastamme vieraat kojuille. Omatoiminen liikkuminen alueella ei ole sallittua turvallisuussyistä eikä eläinten häiriintymisen välttämiseksi.

🤫 2. Hiljaisuus kannattaa
Kojuissa kannattaa liikkua ja toimia rauhallisesti. Hiljainen jutustelu tai kuiskailu on yleensä mahdollista, m***a voimakkaammat äänet voivat karkottaa eläimet ennen kuin kukaan ehtii niitä nähdä tai kuvata.

🍽️ 3. Ruoka ja tuoksut
Katselu- ja kuvausyön hintaan sisältyvät eväät, ja huomioimme myös erityisruokavaliot.

Jos tuot omia eväitä, vältä voimakastuoksuisia ruokia sekä kovasti rapisevia pakkauksia. Sama koskee hajusteita ja muita voimakkaita tuoksuja.

🚫 4. Eläimiä ei ruokita
Eläimille ei saa jättää mitään syötävää omatoimisesti. Tämä on ehdottomasti kielletty.

🌙 5. Kojusta poistuminen
Kojuista ei poistuta ennen sovittua aamuaikaa. Turvallisuuden lisäksi ennenaikainen poistuminen voi karkottaa eläimet alueelta pitkäksi aikaa ja pilata kokemuksen myös muilta vierailta.

📸 6. Mitä kojuilta löytyy?
Kojuissa on patjat, tyynyt, peitteitä sekä kuivakäymälät. Oma makuupussi tarvitaan mukaan tai sen voi vuokrata meiltä.

Kameroille on kiinnitysruuvit, ja osassa kojuja on käytettävissä myös hernepusseja. Omaa jalustaa ei yleensä tarvita eikä se useimmissa kojuissa mahdu kunnolla käyttöön.

Näillä pienillä ohjeilla autat sekä itseäsi että muita vierailijoita saamaan kojureissusta kaiken irti. Kiitos, että kunnioitat luontoa, eläimiä ja muita luonnosta nauttivia. 🌿🐾

🇬🇧 The Night That Never Gets Dark 🌙🐾✨

This photo was captured during the darkest part of the night between Monday and Tuesday – or at least what still passes for night at this time of year.

Summer has arrived in North Karelia, and daylight now lingers almost around the clock. Even when the sun briefly dips below the horizon, true darkness never really arrives. And those are often the hours when wolverines, bears, and other nocturnal visitors are on the move.

At this time of year, wildlife watching and photography are possible 24 hours a day. Every hour can bring a new encounter, and there is no need to stop because of the time on the clock.

There is something special about a summer night in Lieksa. Come and experience it for yourself. 🌿💚

🇫🇮 Yö, joka ei pimene 🌙🐾✨

Tämä kuva on otettu yön hämärimpään aikaan maanantain ja tiistain välisenä yönä. Tai ainakin siihen aikaan, jota vielä yöksi voi kutsua.

Kesä on saapunut Pohjois-Karjalaan, ja valoa riittää nyt lähes läpi vuorokauden. Vaikka aurinko hetkeksi laskeekin horisontin taakse, pimeää ei oikeastaan tule. Juuri silloin liikkuvat usein myös ahmat, karhut ja muut yön kulkijat.

Tähän aikaan vuodesta katselu- ja kuvausaikaa riittää kellon ympäri. Jokainen tunti voi tuoda mukanaan uuden kohtaamisen, eikä luonnon tapahtumia tarvitse jättää väliin vuorokaudenajan vuoksi.

Lieksan kesäyössä on jotain erityistä – tule kokemaan se itse. 🌿💚

🇬🇧 Predator Playing Cards 🃏🐾

Last evening and throughout the night, Uuronlampi treated us to a true predator night. The crossing log over the stream was visited several times by a bear, a wolverine, and a wolf – all captured in remarkably similar reflection shots. 🐻🐾🐺

It almost feels like we've assembled a special deck of Finland’s large predators. Only the lynx was missing, but then again, it’s known for walking its own path.

So, which card would you give to each of them? Who’s the king, who’s the ace, and does one of them end up as the jack? 😄

🇫🇮 Petopelikortit 🃏🐾

Eilen illalla ja viime yönä Uuronlammella nautittiin todellisesta petojen yöstä. Puron ylityspuulla poseerasivat useaan otteeseen niin karhu, ahma kuin susikin – kaikki lähes samanlaisissa heijastuskuvissa. 🐻🐾🐺

Tämähän alkaa muistuttaa petopelikorttien kuninkaallissuoraa. Vain ilves jäi puuttumaan, m***a se onkin tunnetusti omien polkujensa kulkija.

Mikä korteista on sinun mielestäsi kuningas, mikä ässä – ja jääkö joku kenties jätkän rooliin? 😄

🇬🇧 A bear on its way to Uuronlampi – are you coming too? 🐻

The past week has once again been a busy one at our hides. Wolverines and bears have been especially active, both at the forest hides and around the ponds. 🐾

The biggest surprise visitor of the week arrived early on, when young golden eagles appeared at Uuronlampi with ducklings on their minds. 🦅 For the photographers and wildlife watchers present, it was undoubtedly an unforgettable wildlife experience ✨

🇫🇮 Nalle matkalla Uuronlammelle – tuutko mukkaan? 🐻

Kulunut viikko on ollut jälleen vilkas kojuillemme. Erityisesti ahmat ja karhut ovat olleet aktiivisesti liikkeellä niin metsä- kuin lampikojuillakin. 🐾

Viikon suurin yllätysvieras nähtiin kuitenkin alkuviikosta, kun nuoret maakotkat saapuivat Uuronlammelle sorsanpoikaset mielessään. 🦅 Paikalla olleille kuvaajille ja katselijoille oli varmasti ikimuistoinen luontokokemus! ✨

🇬🇧 Warm summer weather ahead – ready for your first swim of the season? ☀️

It’s not uncommon to see a large bear take a refreshing dip on a hot summer day – but bears don’t mind the water in cooler weather either. 🐻💦 But did you know that wolverines and wolves are also capable swimmers and may occasionally travel by water? 🐺🐾

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to witness and photograph some unforgettable swimming moments at Erä-Eero. Here are a few of our favourites. 🤩

If you had to choose, which one would you join for a swim – or at least watch safely from the shore? 😄

🇫🇮 Luvassa lämmintä kesäsäätä – joko talviturkin heitto mielessä? ☀️

Ei ole kovinkaan harvinaista, että suurikokoinen karhu käy uimassa kesähelteillä, eikä se pelkää vettä kylmemmälläkään säällä. 🐻💦 M***a tiesitkö, että myös ahma ja susi saattavat tehdä siirtymiä uimalla? 🐺🐾

Vuosien varrella kuvaajat ovat onnistuneet taltioimaan uimareiden pulahdushetkiä kojuillamme, tässä muutamia uimamaistereiden taidonnäytteitä. 🤩

Jos saisit valita, kenen kanssa lähtisit uimareissulle – tai edes seuraamaan rannalta? 😄

🇬🇧 Bears on the move 🐻

This past week has truly been a bear week. After a quieter period, bears have become much more active, especially at Uuronlampi, sometimes with several individuals visiting the area.

Wolverines have also been making appearances among the bears, and it seems even a wolf stopped by to check out the happenings at Uuronlampi. 🐾

All in all, it has been a busy week – and hopefully there’s more to come. Summer is here, and nature is full of life. Come and experience the atmosphere of the northern early summer for yourself! 🌿☀️

🇫🇮 Karhuhulinaa viikon täydeltä 🐻

Kuluneella viikolla on saatu nauttia todellisesta karhuviikosta. Hieman rauhallisemman jakson jälkeen karhut ovat aktivoituneet erityisesti Uuronlammella, välillä useamman yksilön voimin.

Myös ahmat ovat vilahdelleet karhujen lomassa, ja taisipa susikin käydä ihmettelemässä Uuronlammen menoa kuluneella viikolla. 🐾

Kaikkiaan takana on ollut vilkas viikko – ja toivottavasti samanlainen on myös edessä. Kesä on parhaimmillaan, ja luonto täynnä elämää. Tulehan sinäkin kokemaan alkukesän tunnelmaa kojuillemme! 🌿☀️

🇬🇧 🐻 Waiting for summer like this...

A couple of cooler days are still expected this week, but hopefully we’ll avoid night frost and snowfall. 👀

Last week, all of Finland’s large predators were seen at (or near) our hides. Let’s see how this week turns out. 🐾

We’re also waiting for the first sightings of this year’s bear cubs, but so far only a mother with last year’s cubs has been moving around the area.

🇫🇮 🐻 Kieli pitkällä kesää odottaen...

Tälle viikolle on luvassa pari selkeästi viileämpää päivää, m***a toivotaan, että yöpakkasilta ja lumisateilta säästytään. 👀

Viime viikolla kaikki Suomen suurpedot nähtiin kojuillamme (tai ainakin niiden läheisyydessä). Katsellaan jännityksellä, mitä tämä viikko tuo tullessaan. 🐾

Odottelemme myös tämän kevään ensimmäisiä havaintoja uusista karhunpennuista, m***a toistaiseksi alueella on liikkunut vain emo viimevuotisten pentujensa kanssa.

🇬🇧 Did I hear summer arriving already? 🐾

Wolverines have been moving around actively this week, and we’ve even enjoyed proper summer heat at times. ☀️ The weather has cooled down a little for now, but summer keeps moving forward – and the light continues to grow day by day. 🌿✨

At this time of year, it’s hard to leave the hides at all. You never know who might appear next, curiously looking around... 👀

🇫🇮 Kuulinko jo kesän saapuvan? 🐾

Ahmat ovat olleet tällä viikolla mukavan aktiivisesti liikkeellä, ja viikon puolivälissä ehdittiin jo nautiskella helteisistä keleistäkin. Nyt sää on hieman viilentynyt, m***a kesä etenee silti vauhdilla – ja valo vain lisääntyy päivä päivältä. 🌿✨

Tähän aikaan vuodesta kojuilta ei oikein malttaisi poistua lainkaan. Koskaan ei tiedä, kuka seuraavaksi tallustaa uteliaana maisemiin... 👀

🇬🇧 Visitors of the spring evenings 🌿

Towards the end of the last week, bear activity picked up especially at the forest hides of Keljänpuro, where the warm spring evenings seemed to be enjoyed to the fullest. 🐻 Wolverines were also on the move, although female wolverines tend to be a bit more unpredictable at this time of year as they carefully watch over cubs beginning to explore beyond the den. 🐾

And once again, a lynx stopped by Uuronlampi to admire the beautiful lakeside scenery of spring! 🌅

The season of continuous daylight officially begins in Lieksa towards the end of this month. Even at night, it never becomes completely dark anymore – only slightly dim. And that means magical summer night moments surrounded by the wonders of nature. ✨ The bear photo was taken at the forest hides in early July during the darkest hours of the night.

🇫🇮 Kevätiltojen ihmettelijöitä 🌿

Viime viikon lopulla karhuliikenne vilkastui erityisesti Keljänpuron metsäkojuilla, missä lämpimistä kevätilloista nautiskeltiin pitkän kaavan mukaan. 🐻 Myös ahmat olivat liikkeellä, vaikkakin ahmaemojen meno on tähän aikaan vuodesta tavallista arvaamattomampaa – pesistä maailmaa kohti kurkistelevat pennut pitävät emojen liikkeet varovaisina. 🐾

Ja piipahtipa ilveskin jälleen Uuronlammella ihailemassa keväisiä lampimaisemia! 🌅

Valoisa aika alkaa virallisesti Lieksassa tämän kuun loppupuolella. Silloin yölläkään ei enää tule täysin pimeää – hieman hämärää kylläkin. Ja sehän tarkoittaa upeita kesäyön hetkiä luonnon ihmeitä ihastellessa. ✨ Julkaisun kuvista karhukuva on kuvattu metsäkojuillamme viime heinäkuussa yön hämärimpinä hetkinä.
