Representing Ethiopia and landlocked African countries at the United Nations in Vienna was not just a personal milestone—it was a reminder of the responsibility the private sector carries in shaping sustainable development, regional connectivity, and fair access to global trade.

More than a decade later, landlocked countries continue to face structural barriers in logistics, trade corridors, and market access. The conversations held in Vienna—and the 10-year UN action plan—remain highly relevant as Africa advances AfCFTA, regional integration, and sustainable infrastructure development.

This post is a reminder that private-sector leadership, policy alignment, and regional cooperation are not optional—they are essential. It is also a call to continue turning global commitments into practical, bankable, and executable solutions for Ethiopia and Africa.

Some conversations deserve to be revisited—not for nostalgia, but for accountability and action.

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a 10 year action-plan aimed at accelerating sustainable development in the world’s 32 landlocked developing countries. The action-plan was put together in Vienna, Austria, where Heads of State and senior representatives from governments and international organizations gathered from 3 – 5 November at the Second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
