Even if you don’t follow football, you’ve probably seen that the small, heart-shaped country of Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦 knocked Italy 🇮🇹 out of the World Cup. Italy - former champions - are not even playing this summer - it’s unheard of!

But this Bosnian team is special, and not because of who they beat. Their captain, Edin Džeko, spent his childhood under the longest siege of a capital city in modern history. Esmir Bajraktarević, the 21-year-old who scored the penalty that did it, was born in Wisconsin - his family was driven out of Bosnia during the war. That’s this team: the ones who stayed and survived, and the ones who were forced out and found their way back. Thirty years ago, people tried to erase them. This summer, they’re playing in front of the world.

Bosnia 🇧🇦 play Switzerland 🇨🇭 later today, and we’re cheering them on. But whatever happens at this World Cup, this team has already won a lot of hearts, ours included. And if they’ve made you want to see Bosnia for yourself - go properly. Not just for a holiday, but to pay your respects, to sit with the people who lived it, and to understand what it means that this country is still here at all. 🇧🇦

“Our hearts are now connected.”
Brother Junaid flew in from the United States for the mountains, the history and the old town. He left calling people he’d met that week his brothers and sisters.

That’s the part of the trip that you can’t quantify in photos in your camera roll, souvenirs you’ve purchased or bucket lists ticked you’ve ticked off. It’s the part where you find your people, even when you’re thousands of miles away from home.

ćejf (n.) - the art of doing nothing, properly.
We have a word in Bosnia for doing absolutely nothing, and we take it very seriously. It usually starts with coffee. Not coffee to go - coffee you sit with for an hour, maybe two. Technically speaking, it means to take deep pleasure in something - to enjoy it slowly, deeply, and mindfully.

So if you are planning to come to Bosnia this summer - and you should - don’t pack your days too tight. Leave room to do nothing except sit, reflect, and watch the world go by. It’s not a cure, but it definitely is a medicine for anyone who’s been feeling stressed, under pressure and short on time. ☕️
*our video editor chose not to cut the ‘millennial pause’ at the beginning because in an age of AI, we need a little bit more authenticity 🥲

They say that trying something new can rewire your brain 🧠, give you extra dopamine, and lead to feelings of joy, confidence and accomplishment. So we did exactly that on our Sisterhood in Bosnia retreat this May - we rode horses, rolled and stuffed pastry, we rafted on the Neretva river, and we made new friends. And what an adventure it’s been! Alhamdullilah 🥹. Thank you to all our beautiful ladies who came with open hearts to enjoy this experience with us 🥰 And thank you to all our staff and partners who made this possible - you are amazing.

Our next dates are 25th-30th June - comment “SISTERHOOD” below or DM 💌 us to receive more information 🌸👇

The Prophet ﷺ described the Day of ʿArafah as the day Allah descends to the nearest heaven and boasts of His servants to the angels. On this day, sins are forgiven on a scale unlike any other, and for those not on Hajj, fasting it expiates two years of sins. He ﷺ told us:
“The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of ʿArafah, and the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is: ‘There is no deity except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all dominion and praise, and He is over all things competent.’”
In Arabic:
لا إله إلا الله وحدهُ لا شريك لهُ، لهُ الملكُ ولهُ الحمدُ، وهو على كل شيءٍ قدير
Transliteration:
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ʿala kulli shayʾin qadeer.

This dua is easy to recite - after salah, while walking, while driving, cooking, cleaning. These words were on the lips of every prophet before him. Now they’re ours. Say them as much as you can. 🤍
