Heidi’s Horizon 2026 — A Swiss Story Told by XPeaks
We began in Zurich and then headed to Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall. We crossed by boat, stood on the middle rock, and felt the spray as the water thundered around us. From the Känzeli to Fischetz the roar of water was not background noise but a presence you could wear on your skin, a reminder that some places speak first in sound.
From that thunder, we stepped into Bernese life. A guided walk through Bern’s UNESCO old town with I love Bern, turned narrow streets into chapters; the three bears, the Zytglogge, and the climb up the Berner Münster gave us a city seen from above and from within. We picnicked in Marzili followed by a bath in the Aare, the exact way a Bernese summer should be lived. We could not miss the sunset from Rosengarten and warmed our hands over fondue as the city lights came on.
Then the mountains: Interlaken, Grindelwald, the first cliff walk with the Eiger framed before us and the Jungfrau distant and majestic. The trail to Bachalpsee held mirror lakes and alpine silence; we shared laughter with strangers who felt like friends and ate a hut lunch that tasted of altitude and care. Those high views were not just vistas but invitations to slow down and listen.
We crossed into the French part of Switzerland by the dedicated train to Broc and the Cailler Chocolate Factory, the oldest chocolate brand in Switzerland, where we traced cocoa from Aztec origins to Swiss craft, learned about supply chains, and indulged in the kind of chocolate that makes you slow down.
In Lausanne we picnicked at Ouchy, wandered the UNESCO Lavaux region, and had w**e tasting at Gaillard et Fils while the beautiful views of Lake Geneva spread out like a promise. As in all our trips, we let the unexpected happen and bathed in the lake after walking down from the vineyards. And because it was July, we let the Festival de la Cité Lausanne sweep us into a night of music, laughter, and local ritual. A reminder that festivals are how places celebrate themselves.
We closed the loop where we started in Zurich, with the kind of quiet that follows a day well lived: narrow alleys, artisan coffee, and a slow walk along Lake Zurich that felt regenerating.

Throughout our rail journeys we talked to locals: a vintner on the Vaud train, a Zuricher on the train to Grindenwald who made the ride more familiar, a friend we encountered on the streets of Lausanne. Those conversations turned transit into encounter and made the trip feel unmistakably authentic. Listening to people who live in a place is how a visit becomes an introduction.
And then the unexpected: while waiting for the train, we walked down Lauvax vineyards, slipped into the lake for a quick, spontaneous bath, and returned to the platform with salt on our skin and stories to tell. That unplanned moment became one of the trip’s most remembered scenes. And to live like a local, swimming in the Aare, the la cite festival, fondue around a table, wandering in the mist of the mountains and eating at a hut, moving around by transports because they are efficient, drinking local w**e and eating chocolate at a chocolate factory.
Why it mattered
This journey was never a checklist. It was a series of invitations to live like a local, to let the unexpected arrive, and to listen. Travellers told us they were surprised by how our deep local knowledge turned logistics invisible and made every encounter feel effortless and every moment authentic. They didn’t just see Switzerland, they stepped into its rhythms: the roar of water, the chant of mountain wind, the hush of a lakeside at dusk, the warmth of a shared table. In Heidi’s Horizon we threaded water, stone, mountains, and people into a single story. A journey that changed how everyone on it saw Switzerland.
