We meant to share this for a while now. This is what we could make of our apartment with no help (apart from the kitchen, that was done completely by Leroy Merlin). We done everything while living in, so time frames were very important, too, on top of the budget. At the end we managed to make the refurbishment happen with €18K (apartment was €62K plus taxes). It was a really challenging period but we survived and we have our first fully owned property/home. It goes without saying that once you have your own place, the ‘refurbishment’ never stops of course.😅

Just a quick recap of the video we’ve done earlier on our UK car import process - in case people prefer reading 📖 😉

After hesitating for a while we decided that the most cost effective way to have a car in Spain was to bring over our car.
Used cars in Spain are very expensive and we didn’t want to risk, we felt more comfortable using the car that we know inside out.

We found a lovely company who sorted everything for us from A to Z. They even had an amazing solution to avoid import tax (completely legal, no worries 😎)

Below the payments in detail:

•€1360 for the paperwork, plates, ITV (Spanish MOT), roadtax for the year

•€170 for a legal trick to avoid the import tax

•€1180 for the headlights (note, this is different for every car, ours unfortunately couldn’t be realigned for the Spanish roads, so had to change the complete units. That might cost for others as little as €90/headlight)

•insurance €340 (through the same company)

Total €3050

Please note, we had nothing to fix on our car when they done the ITV inspection, that is obviously an extra.

Additional info: To bring over the car from UK through France cost us:

•€280 petrol
•€210 motorway fees
•€180 shuttle through the tunnel

Total €670 (Nissal Xtrail 1.6 petrol)

After 20 years of city life in London, we’ve made the leap to sunny Lo Pagan and we couldn’t be happier!

We left London because it was getting too much. The stress, the expenses, the noise, the general chaos. We wanted sunshine and peace but most of all, we wanted a safe environment for our son.

Despite all the stress we are not ungrateful, we learned a lot in the UK and now we would like to use our knowledge and expertise here in San Pedro, Lo Pagan, too.

In London next to having our restaurant and cocktail bar (during COVID times) we also managed properties for 10 years. We really enjoyed providing welcoming homes to people with an extra touch; creating community and maintaining attentive service at all times was always our priority - which resulted in tenants staying with us in many cases for over 5 years.

Now we would like to offer our services here - everything property from A to Z. We know what it takes to make guests feel at home and ensure property owners have peace of mind.

Our suffering continues 🙊 (*sarcasm)
The sunsets are to die for even in the middle of November. Temperatures are still hot - around 24-26 degrees although mornings and evenings start to be chilly.

We learn more and more about the areas around us, so slowly getting the ideas what business could be done here on top of having a holiday home.

As for the airbnb we’ve seen around 25 properties by now but nono of them ticked all the boxes. That doesn’t stop us really, we keep looking.😁

How are you guys doing? Are you planning to come to Spain anytime soon? (For living or for some winter sun?)

we go with the details ⤵️Car import fee €1350, this includes all the import admin, ITV inspection, ITV certification until end of year, road tax until end of year, temporary plates and permanent platesCar import ‘tax’: £149 (€170), this a legal way to avoid paying the import tax basically. This is also sorted by the same company, they did all the communication with the company in the UK. It was zero hassle.Headlights: €1180 as our car’s (Nissan Xtrail 2017) headlights couldn’t be adjusted. If it can be adjusted, prices start from €90/headlight at most companies The process is still ongoing, we started it around mid June, we should receive the permanent plates in about a week or two.We have to add we don’t know the official law regarding timeframes when you bring your car to Spain, we had enough going on before, so we got to it when we could, like 4 months after moving here.So all we’re saying is, do your own research too, to help on the safe side.😁Insurance was €350 for 1 year, insurance company also recommended by the import company. They literally took all our headaches away during the whole process. Very happy with them and highly recommend them for anyone.
