Ibiza is a relatively easy sailing area and is suitable for less experienced crews. There are few major navigational challenges, the flows are low and the influence of the tides is insignificant. However, the area between Ibiza and Formentera requires caution as there are some rocks and shoals. If you follow the safe and reliable buoys, you will have no trouble. The shoal La Bota, about 1 nautical mile northwest of the Isla Es Vedra is a known but unmarked danger zone, as just beneath the surface there is a large rock. In contrast to the northern Balearic Islands, the wind conditions in Ibiza are influenced by the African mainland. The winds that occur are the cool Poniente from southwest (2-5 Bft), and the warm Levant from the southeast (up to 8 Bft). In spring and autumn, the Sirocco comes from the South causes storms. The risk of strong winds is highest between October and April.

Ibiza has an area of 571 square kilometers and is the third largest island of the Balearic Islands. The island lies about 90 kilometers east of the Iberian Peninsula. Ibiza, Formentera and some smaller, uninhabited islands make up the island group. The capital of the Ibiza is Ibiza Town or Eivissa in Catalan. It is located on the southeast coast and was founded by the Phoenicians in 7th Century BC. The cityscape is based around the massive walls of the medieval fortress Dalt Vila, which was built under Moorish rule (between the 9th and 13th century). The old town of Ibiza was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.

Cabrera is about 30 nautical miles south of Palma de Mallorca, the main city on Mallorca, one of Spain’s Balearic Islands. And it’s the largest island within the Archipiélago de Cabrera, a natural reserve administered by Spain’s national park system.

With about 50 mooring buoys in the harbor, permits are issued for one night only in the months of July and August, two nights in June and September and up to seven nights the rest of the year. Cost is according to boat length. Anchoring is forbidden. No fishing, no camping, no fires, no pets, no dumping; rest rooms are provided.
