It's been a while due to data issues in some countries but I am sure I will get to that 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Day 27 🙄🙄
Dalyan 🇹🇷
Dalyan is a place I remember as a child as a fabulous trip with my Mum and Dad, on a little River Boat watching the local Caretta Caretta turtle 🐢 leisurely swim past the boat, one was as big as 6ft in diameter, so this was a definite stop not just for my own memories but to create some new ones with the kids 😍🤷🏼♀️
By the time we arrived we were tired and hungry, so I tripadvised the best restaurants, I set my sights on number 2 as the reviews were amazing... But our Google maps was persistent in advising us on ploughing through a field, into someone's house to pass through to the restaurant garden 🤦🏼♀️ After trying this several times and still not getting it right we decided to just drive through all the restricted/pedestrian roads instead waving at people with a strained face saying Lo Siento as we went... Thought it was better for them to blame the Spanish foreigners and try and retain some dignity 🤷🏼♀️🤣
We arrive at #2 all not speaking to each other due to the row to find it, and 3 stove blaming me on my constant need to find a restaurant from reviews without just wandering the streets, trying to explain that I would rather take the words of people that had already done the work for us really didn't help him understand 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Standing outside looking at the menu, this is the first time a waiter didn't harass us to come in, or explain that the picture of a chicken was a chicken, a burger was a burger... You get my drift...
"I have eyes I can see" had been a regular response from 3 stove in the past days before storming off...
I think this waiter could tell we were a non-verbal family and with that polite encounter we went to find a table 🤷🏼♀️🤣
Well I am glad I preserved as we sat down, the owner who we then learnt to be Murat could sense our mood and sat down with us to try and bring humour... "What wrong, smile your on holiday innit🤣🤷🏼♀️"
Murat tried really hard with Taya, she tried to explain she was poorly from her teeth, straight away he sent one of his lovely waiters to the pharmacy to get ibuprofen and vitamin c, he also sat down and took the same to prove he wasn't drugging her 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Food was all lovely and freshly made, we were all back to talking and chilled out 🤗
Once we mentioned we wanted to do a boat trip the next day, he was on the phone sorting us a lovely little boat with his friends, which was better than any I had found...💙
Murat is married to a lovely lady Susan, who spends some of her months in BeddGelet, so he had an excellent accent of Turkish/cockney and Welsh 🤦🏼♀️🤣
"What happens in Dalyan stays in Dalyan innit? Unless it's on Google innit 🤷🏼♀️" (his favourite phrase)
Taya asked if he could make an iced coffee....
"Coffee with Ice? Like just a coffee with Ice, mmm I think my skills can manage that 🤣🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️"
"I had customers the other day, who can't eat bacon so they asked for Turkey bacon, went to shop and cane back with the packet to show them, Turkey bacon (Bacon from Turkey) they seemed happy with that, turkey bacon innit?"😳😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
As another family arrived he knew only buy a bottle of water to share, he got his money out on our table and pretended he was a paying guest 🤷🏼♀️
"Aren't you going to serve them?"
"Leave them long enough they might wander off innit?"
If you are ever in Dalyan you have to find Murat and his fabulous funny team for sure, the lovely food is just an added bonus to the entertainment 🇹🇷
The next morning we arrive for more "ice Ice cafe" and he leads on his new battered moped (from his drives home 🤦🏼♀️) to our boat, which looked like a lovely peaceful way to spend a day 🪬
First you get to see the fabulous The Ancient City of Kaunos, one of the oldest ancient cities in the world and one of the places you should definitely visit in Dalyan, even if you are not interested in history and culture.
Dalyan Rock Tombs, dating back to BC and lasting for 2800 years, are among the borders of Çandır Village. Rock Tombs take visitors to take a stroll through the pages of history and take them to a different world.
According to the belief, the rock tombs made to the places as high as possible for the kings and important people who are expected to be close to the god, give important clues about the world of embedding tradition of the Kaunos. Dalyan Rock Tombs are not completed due to the invasion of Alexander the Great or Persians.
The tombs of the temple are the most important group among the rock tombs. The triangular upper facade carried by the columns, and the rock-cut tombs, which consist of the chamber and the burial chamber with the steps of the tomb chamber, are quite a sight from the river 🥰
If you haven't nodded off by now at the old history lesson, you cross the river to the sea, apparently today was the craziest that had seen when the waves hit the river so there was some choppy old moves going on, which was really impressing Taya by now 🤦🏼♀️🤣
As we pull into one bay 3 stove jumps straight in the water to swim to the little island so was unaware that the rest of us were about to smash into the boat next door as our mooring line got caught in the propeller and our captain jumped ship and left us all trying to push the boat away from next doors, so we were all left to hold the other boat, I pointed maybe we should use the fenders 🤷🏼♀️ but the Turk on board assured me that us all standing in a line leaning over holding the boat off was a far more rational thing to do 🙄🤣
Captain emerges back on board with his hand cut open, boat into power and we move for a safer space, meanwhile 3 stove has just "landed on his peice of land, waving frantically as he heard the engines thinking we were leaving, so I decide to just wave back as he starts running and swimming full speed incase we left him 🙄🤣 when he gets back I explain what had happened
"Well why didn't you tell me I could have helped with my snorkel"🫣🫣🫣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now that's something I would have paid to see 🤣
We had a great BBQ off the back of the boats, the kids did some diving off the boat and then we finished at the magic lake, a funny green colour, once you dive in it is cool but at the bottom is hot due to the thermal springs bubbling underneath 🥰
And just for the record, as per normal on any of my "let's go see trips" we didn't see one 🐢, however whilst swimming in the river, I thought I put my foot onto a rock, which sank and I sank with it, realising it was probably a turtle swimming under me that I obviously couldn't see due to very thick green water, I screamed and swam as quick as I could back to the boat, causing quite some entertainment for everyone who had decided sipping a drink on the boat for the break was a far better idea 🤷🏼♀️🙄🤣
Quick stop to say Gule Gule to Murat,Susan and team we were off to Marmaris 🫣🫣🫣
