ASC Shipbuilding's 1,000 shipbuilders are immensely proud of new air warfare destroyer (AWD) Brisbane’s successful completion of Category 5 Sea Trials this week.

As the shipbuilder in the AWD Alliance, ASC Shipbuilding is responsible for construction of the high performance ship platform.

The second of three AWDs, Brisbane will be delivered to the Government in mid-2018 ahead of being commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy.

Brisbane is pictured here with HMAS Hobart (right), the first-in-class AWD, commissioned in September last year.

The sea trials also proved the use of a networked combat system that can shoot down incoming missiles well beyond the horizon, by sharing targeting information between warships and aircraft.

It is the first time the Cooperative Engagement Capability has been deployed outside of the United States Navy.
