Springtime in Spain! 🌸 Our life lately has been bouncing between soaking up València’s sunny springtime vibes and sitting in our little office planning epic trips for summer and fall.

We currently have more than 40 trips on the books, and more in the queue ( ), a lot of which are last-minute summer trips. Which is great, we love them! But we do need enough time to iron out every detail to be sure every trip is flawless, just the way we like them.

So, if you have a last minute trip -
Choose a Designed Trip! Even if you don’t see your perfect trip, we can help you modify one of our existing trips to be perfect for you. We can turn them around in just a couple weeks, because all of the details have been pre-planned based on our personal travel experiences and contacts.

Or, if you want an epic International Custom Trip -
Generally 4+ months is the sweet spot to start planning. A reminder that we only work on one Custom Travel Plan at a time, and often have a wait list, so reach out early!

We are endlessly grateful to do what we love in a place that continues to inspire us after all these years. And getting to work with amazing travelers who share our passion for exploration is absolutely the cherry on top.🍒

🇵🇦 Panama has been on our travel wishlist for the last decade. Ever since we leapfrogged it on a flight from Bogotá to San Jose back in 2015, then traveled the rest of Central America by bus, we’ve felt like it was a place left to be explored. We know it’s one of the safest countries in Central America (a lower crime rate than Mexico and much of the Caribbean), that the U.S. military has a significant security presence, and that it has become super popular for American expats (and businesses). It’s also home to amazing coffee and happens to be sandwiched between two of our favorite Latin American countries, so, let’s just say planning a trip here has been long overdue.

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks visiting three distinct areas, and have found that in many ways, Panama was what we expected - modern, organized (even manicured in some places), and overall comfortable, with a clear American influence over the years. It feels foreign and different, but with some comforts from home, like nice cafes and well marked hiking trails. But it’s also surprised us, mostly in the sheer beauty and uniqueness of some of these spots. We’ve never been anywhere like Bocas Del Toro, with restaurants and hotels built on stilts over the Caribbean Sea, backed by swampy mangroves. Or the gorgeous town of El Valle de Anton, that sits on the floor of an ancient volcanic caldera surrounded by a rim of jungle. Experiences that are unique, and super exciting.

We weren’t totally sure if a Panama Designed Trip was in the cards - we wanted to experience the country for ourselves. But we’re leaving feeling excited and energized to develop a new trip to this diverse country - one that will go from the historic city to the tropical mountains, and the Caribbean islands, all in 10 days. Keep an eye out in the next few months, and let us know if this is something that you’re excited for too!

Kenya! We almost flew home from Tanzania, but then we were so close to the border, that we thought... Why not? And we’re really happy we did. Not because the five days we spent in this country blew our socks off (it was verrrry hard to follow the Serengeti where our socks were blown off daily), but because we saw a small part of a new country, felt the differences between Tanzania and Kenya, and experienced a jarring but powerful look at life in Nairobi.

Our first few days in Kenya were spent at a safari lodge within Amboseli National Park. Right on the Tanzania and Kenya border, the park is best known for its large families of elephants and views of Mt Kilimanjaro in the distance. And it delivered on both accounts, with groups of up to 30 elephants at a time, led by the oldest matriarch with babies in tow, sauntering by slowly as we ate breakfast each morning. Not the same ‘action’ as the cats of the Serengeti, but we continued to be completely in awe of the beauty of these animals. It also gave us the chance to try an all-inclusive safari lodge, which is a common, less expensive way to experience a safari (our goal is always to develop a Designed Trip at various accomodation levels and price points). Our final safari was a sad one - this experience has been such a gift.

Before flying back to Spain, we spent two days in Nairobi, which felt a million miles away from the peaceful nature of the bush. We met up with a couple former ‘street boys’ who shared their stories and experience growing up in the slums of the city. The lack of government support and complete injustice is jarring and we were left again sitting with the discomfort of wanting to help everyone we met but feeling like it was all too big to even make a scratch. Once again, in Africa, we felt very small and insignificant - a theme that we’ve been confronted with in various ways over the last few weeks. We board the plane back to Europe with our minds blown open, reeling with new information, conversation, and inspiration we haven’t had in a very long time.

People say that an African safari will change you. It sounds lofty, but after nearly a week in the bush, we understand. It’s wild out here. There is no other experience that we can point to when we have witnessed life and death so closely. Or when we have watched different species and sizes of animals work together so symbiotically. Or when we have witnessed so much raw beauty - in animals, in nature, in people - that we feel humbled and like a very small dot on this big planet. We have both always loved animals and we knew that this trip would be amazing, but there is something deeper and more profound about this experience that we will take with us, and that we will certainly remember forever.

Our final few days in the Serengeti are nothing short of mind-blowing. We are immediately greeted by thousands of wildebeests, slowly making their way south as new calves are born each day. The abundance of food brings predators too, and we almost instantly see multiple prides of lions with 6 or 7 animals (including cubs!), as well as cheetahs and leopards. We stay at a cozy camp (some very comfy glamping) that moves every few months, following the migration and are woken up every night to lions roaring nearby. One night we come back to our tent after dinner to find the desk knocked sideways and all of our things on the floor... We later learn that a lion had chased a zebra into the side of our tent. Like we said, it’s wild out here, and we absolutely love it.

A couple days in, and we’re starting to embrace life on safari. The magical feeling of waking up and not knowing what mother nature has in store for you. The fact that you very well may witness a chase, a birth, a fight, even a kill, and that nature - big and small - is unpredictable, messy, exciting and beautiful. Our days have been spent riding this roller coaster of emotions, from extreme highs and excitement to quiet moments admiring the nature and landscape around us. We fall asleep every night fast and easily with every day feeling so stimulating.
The second stop on our safari adventure is the incredible Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera, formed 2–3 million years ago. The crater floor is home to over 50 distinct ecosystems and habitats, drawing animals from the Serengeti to this small, 100 square mile slice of paradise. Following the December rains, the grass and crater walls glow green and we’re well aware that we would be amazed to be here, even without the animal sightings. But the sightings are abundant and our sunrise safari starts with a giant male lion walking right in front of our truck. Throughout the morning, we see a black rhino, hyenas, hippos, ostriches, more lions, zebras, gazelles, antelopes and wildebeests, learning about their unique behaviors along the way. We then have the opportunity to visit a traditional Maasai village. This semi-nomadic ethnic group lives off the land in circular mud huts, traveling with their livestock. We are generously greeted with a traditional song and dance, including a jumping ritual (Ryan jumped with them!), and learn about daily life. It’s a fascinating experience that leaves us with mixed feelings - respect for the culture and tradition, but also some questionable feelings around the lack of education/opportunities, brutal circumcision practices, polygamy and gender roles. After visiting another local village yesterday, we’re reminded that a trip to Africa is so much more than animals - our perspectives are shifting and our minds are opening.

Tarangire National Park is famous for two things: The incredible baobab trees (think Rafiki’s Tree of Life in the Lion King), and giant herds of elephants. As soon as we entered the park, we saw large families of elephants, typically consisting of females and their calves, and led by the oldest and most experienced female, known as the matriarch. The elephants in Africa are much larger than the Asian elephants we’ve seen in Thailand and Sri Lanka, and they all have long, white tusks, which make them incredibly impressive up close - you can feel the presence of so many massive animals! Our first adventure was a walking safari, where we learned all of the hand motions and safety precautions before heading out in a single file line with our guide and two scouts with guns. Being on the ground with elephants nearby and a rainbow over the park was the first of many moments to take our breath away. We’re in Tanzania developing our newest Cohica Designed Trip and have found an exceptional safari partner who we will be traveling with through three National Parks over the next 6 days. Like many people, this has been an absolute dream for as long as we can remember, and the beauty of Tarangire, as well as the elephants, giraffes, zebras and hyenas that we’ve spotted during our short time here, has already been more exciting and beautiful than we could have imagined.

Zanzibar! Just 20 miles off the coast of mainland Tanzania, and made up of two islands with a population of 2 million people, it’s a place where most travelers end their trip to East Africa. But we wanted to switch things up and kick off our January adventure with a little R&R and tropical sunshine.

We spent 6 days on the larger, Unguja Island, exploring three different locations to develop our new Tanzania Designed Trip, starting with the whitesand beaches of the windswept villages of Paje and Jambiani. The coastal towns have a chill, ‘pole pole’ (slow) vibe, with some beautiful beachfront boutique hotels, backed by simple villages with dirt and sand roads, few shops, and cinder block houses with tin roofs. We spent some relaxed days here, strolling along the beach and exploring the local seaweed farms as the low tide receded nearly a half mile from the coast.

Stonetown is in many ways, the exact opposite. The historic center is a maze of narrow streets, with parts that feel like Marrakech’s medina. It’s an incredible town with a dark past, as home to one of the world’s largest and last slave markets.

It’s been a beautiful start to our Tanzania adventure! Next up, a short flight northeast to Arusha, where we’ll start our 6-day overland safari, visiting 3 of the country’s national parks, each with different landscapes and wildlife. This is a dream come true for us and we can’t wait to experience every second.

We had a big year of adventure in 2025 and we’re still reminiscing! We went to 9 amazing destinations - a mix of cities, islands, and weekend escapes, and developed three new Designed Trips based on our travels. We’re feeling grateful, refreshed, and are already kicking off our 2026 adventures with an epic trip to Tanzania & Kenya. Are any of these spots on your travel wishlist?

Happy holidays from sunny Valencia!

Since moving abroad, one of our favorite traditions is baking cookies for our neighbors. It’s our way of saying thank you for the patience with our barking pup (and our Spanish mistakes), and for making somewhere foreign feel like home.

We’re heading into 2026 feeling super grateful for our upcoming adventures ahead and the community around us. If you’re looking for a last-minute gift for someone special, our holiday gift certificates are still available with a 50% bonus, because the best gifts are the ones that create new memories.

However you’re celebrating, we’re wishing you a warm and happy holiday season!
