A journey back in time to the late 1960s! 🏗️🛤️

This incredible aerial shot captures the massive transformation of the landscape between Montcada i Reixac and Barcelona. You can clearly see the construction of the highway viaducts and the complex railway network at Montcada Bifurcació, long before the modern Nus de la Trinitat took its current shape.

This was the era when the old N-152 was being bypassed by the new "Autopista del Norte," forever changing how we enter and exit the city. A true testament to the industrial and urban growth that defined a generation.

Does anyone remember driving through here when the viaducts were still under construction? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Orís Tunnel, 1968: A passage frozen in time. 🏔️📜
This photograph captures the rugged beauty of the N-152 highway in its prime. Located exactly 85km between Barcelona and Puigcerdà, this stone-carved tunnel was once a vital artery for travelers crossing Osona.
Today, this iconic entrance is permanently walled up, leaving this image as a silent witness to a bygone era of Catalan road history. 🚲🧱

Barcelona Retro: The Gateway to the North (1989)
Take a trip back to 1989, just three years before the Olympic Games transformed Barcelona forever. This snapshot shows the Avinguda Meridiana, the city's great northern artery, buzzing with the raw energy of the late 80s.
The Birth of the N-152
What makes this image particularly iconic for road enthusiasts and locals alike is the prominent road marking for the N-152.
While today we navigate via complex tunnel systems and modern highways like the C-17, this was the official starting point of the National Route 152. From this very asphalt in the heart of the city, the road stretched out toward Vic, Ripoll, and all the way to the French border at Puigcerdà. A Glimpse of the Past
The Fleet: Check out the classic SEATs and old-school delivery trucks hauling crates—a far cry from today's electric hybrids.
The Aesthetic: Notice the vintage street signs and the massive hand-painted murals/billboards on the buildings to the right.
The Transition: In 1989, the Meridiana was a pure "urban highway," a dense concrete river connecting the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees.
Before the "Barcelona Model" of urban renewal fully took hold, this was the city in its gritty, functional, and authentic glory.

Step back in time to 1968 with this beautiful vintage postcard of El Figaró, a charming village tucked away in the Congost Valley. 🏔️
This photograph captures a quiet moment on the historic N-152 road, the main artery that once connected Barcelona to the Pyrenees. On the left, the iconic Congost Hotel & Restaurant stands tall, once a popular stop for travelers and "estiuejants" seeking the fresh mountain air of the Montseny. You can also spot the Casa Consistorial (Town Hall) on the right, framing a streetscape that feels both peaceful and full of history.
It’s a wonderful reminder of how much our roads and landscapes have changed over the decades, transitioning from this scenic route to the modern C-17 highway we know today.

📸 Throwback to 1910! 🕰️
Stepping back in time to the golden age of summer retreats. This charming scene captures a group of Barcelona's bourgeoisie enjoying their annual summer holiday outside the historic Hotel La Corba.
This idyllic spot, nestled right at the foot of the historic N-152 road in Catalonia, offered the perfect escape from the city heat. This road was the vital connection linking Barcelona to the French border through the dramatic Pyrenees mountains! Notice the period attire, the rocking chairs, and the horse-drawn carriage awaiting the guests! A true slice of early 20th-century leisure and travel.

Blast from the Past: Granollers, 1970s!
A fantastic, atmospheric look back at a bustling street in Granollers, Catalonia, captured sometime in the 1970s. This is a classic scene from the former route of the N-152 road, which was a vital artery connecting Barcelona to Puigcerdà and the French border.
You can almost hear the rumble of that old tanker truck driving over the cobblestones, passing by all the colourful, traditional storefronts! Notice the iconic old-school signs like "SEAT," "VANGUARDIA," "COCINAS FAR," and "ANGLO." So much history in one frame!
A special thanks to Joan FC for publishing this on the " españolas que quedaron en el olvido" Facebook group. The photographer is unknown, but their eye for detail preserved a great moment in Spanish road history.

Blast from the past! 🚀⛽️ We’re throwing it back to the late 60s/early 70s with this incredible vintage shot of the Movilsa Service Station on the N-152 road in Vic, Catalonia.
This is mid-century Modernism (often called Googie architecture) at its best—sleek lines, bold canopies, and a focus on function and flair that defined the golden age of road trips. This was a destination, not just a pit stop! Note the distinct "Estación Servicio" and "Snack Bar Restaurante" signs under that dramatic Spanish sky.
