SWIPE LEFT⬅️ walking thru the streets of Barcelona

We jus strolled around the Gothic Quarter starting from the La Rambla (which is like our Ranganathan street🙆‍♀️) but wider and cleaner, lined with shops and goes on and on.

Most of the earmarked places for sightseeing can be done as a self walking tour with a good map.

We are more like a ‘walk the streets’ ‘feel the place’ kind of people. So it was a wonderful experience strolling thru the narrow streets.

Do try it out when you visit Barcelona ❤️

An evening stroll to the Innen Stadt .. hmmm.. the bustling city centre. But it comes to a standstill at 6 pm. Except for a few shops, all the vednors close by 6 pm. My mind is unable to accept this especially coming from a city that never sleeps until 11 pm.

But the calmness, serenity, cobbled streets and the awesome weather blows away any unfamiliar feeling. We would love to spend hours at Innen Stadt, if it wasn't for the fact that we would freeze. Can you imagine the time we went without the jacket for clicking the pictures? 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Trivia - every city in Germany has an Innen Stadt and Rathaus (Town Hall / Corporation office). We can find different shops, malls, restaurants and banks in the lanes around the Marktplatz (Market square).

Got to eat the best shawarma we ever had 🌯 There are umpteen shops that sell Arab and Turkish food, especially the shawarma and the Doner kebab ( well it’s similar to shawarma which is of Arab origin whereas Doner is Turkish origin ). These are really good so that we won’t miss Indian food.

Don’t ever forget to taste the the Gluwine (hot wine) and the curry wurst (sausages with a special sauce) and the pommus🍟 (ada, namma French fries thaan), these are one of the authentic drinks and foods of Germany 🇩🇪

Omg, it’s mouth watering jus to think about it❤️

If we have to go sightseeing in Europe on our own, we need few basic things

1. A public transit ticket
2. Visit a city App
3. Excellent mobile data
4. Google maps
5. And of course an interest to see a lot of places

So we ended up having a wonderful three day trip at Berlin (in 2018😜) cos we had all of the above.

The Intercity Hotel (the pic will tell u more) was just a 2 minutes walk from the Berlin Hauptbahnhof... hmm for those who need translation from German, it’s the central station 🤪🤪🤪 and we can connect to any place in Berlin from the station. And the best part is that the hotel gives a free ticket for all modes of public transport.

Berlin is a such a beautiful place and so well connected by public transportation such that you don’t have to walk more than a few metres between the stops.

We can find all modes of transportation in Berlin .. the underground train (U Bahn), the Surface train (S Bahn), straßenbahn (Tram) and the bus. The google map will give you precise and multiple options to choose from. We simply loved it🥰

Jus a word about visit a city app.. wherever you go in the world, please download it. It’s quite handy and extremely helpful.

Germany was the place where we encountered truly artic weather for the first time. Never before had we worn four layers of clothes in any place!

Getting dressed was a long process and we got tired gearing up before even stepping out 😅The thermals, then the T-shirt, followed by a sweater and lastly the woolen parka or the jerkin. It was an experience just to get ready everyday!

After sunset, it was too frosty to venture out even fully decked with 4 cozy layers.

Btw, this guy is so used to the cold weather now, he doesn’t even bother to wear a thermal. It would probably take me another two years to do that!

The Story of the Selfie Stick!

Yet another interesting part of Istanbul is the variety of the markets at every corner of the city. Everything and anything we could want is sold from 10 lira. Such a joy to bargain and buy! We enjoyed getting everything down to half the quoted price. Ironically, we ended up buying five pair of shoes, bags and a lot of other things that are still lying in the cupboard for 5 years.

It was the first time we bought a selfie stick and ended by taking hundreds of pictures (rather I forced him to take a lot of pictures with me).

If I remember right, he broke the selfie stick into two after that last pic in this post 😇😜 do check it out
