June 6, 2024 🇪🇸 Hornillos -> Castrojerez

One of the hottest days of the trail. Rosa found a bird dehydrated and insisted on carrying it 8km to the town Church… I don’t think it survived with the heat and exhaustion.

Stumbled upon a castle ruin (you can actually stay there overnight which I absolutely would have done if I had known). Strolled through fields that look like something out of a Windows Computer. Flourishing poppy fields and ending the night with a massive Pilgrim Meal with about 15 of us all walking together.

June 5, 2024 🇪🇸 Burgos -> Hornillo

Day 14 took us from Burgos to Hornillos through the wide-open Meseta and fields of bright red poppies. Along the way, I wandered into a small church because the doors were open. Inside, a nun blessed me and gave me a small Miraculous Medal that I still carry with me today.

Later, some locals started playing music for the pilgrims passing through. It wasn’t planned, they just wanted to share a moment with us. Experiences like that showed me what the Camino is really about.

One of the things that stood out most was how the Spanish people embraced the pilgrims. Everywhere we went, people seemed to be rooting for us. They understood the journey we were on and welcomed us with kindness, generosity, and encouragement. The Camino isn’t just about the path you walk, it’s about the people who open their doors and make you feel like you’re part of something bigger, the kindness you don’t expect, and the feeling that an entire country is quietly cheering for you to reach your destination.
