ASTRA ‘SOLD’.
On Friday 11 April 2025, ASTRA changed ownership and ASTRA will return to the ice in Finland in the Gulf of Bothnia.
Iain completed 43,000+ miles on ASTRA over the last 4 years, with 31,538 of those miles being completed on ASTRA’s unique World First Circumnavigation of the earth via all the Capes in the Southern Hemisphere in 2021-22 across a gruelling 150 days at sea.
Every day it felt that this mighty vessel saved our lives and brought the crew home safely.
Astra’s main crew consisted of:
Iain (Captain)
Mikey (Mate)
Dan (2/O)
Paul (Ch. Eng)
Luke (Ch.Eng)
Carlos (Jnr Off) Deceased
Lets not forget:
Glenn (Ch. Eng) 6m during yard fit out and sea trials
Pete (Watch Off) Undertook one leg at short notice and involved in the initial delivery and outings in the Atlantic
And of course Hamza who took over Carlos’s position two years ago and has primarily looked after the vessel these last two years.
So what next:
Well not quite finished, as the crew will deliver ASTRA in to the Baltic in late May/June this year with a stop off in Castlebay, Isle of Barra planned as they head North and a cruise of the West of Scotland en-route to the Baltic.
The crew are still regularly sailing together and are actively homing in on the acquisition of a larger expedition vessel to embark on further challenges.
