The reef that seemed familiar during the day becomes a different world at night. Sleeping parrotfish hide inside coral formations, Spanish dancers appear from the darkness, and hunting lionfish glide silently through the water. Colors sharpen under your torchlight while nocturnal marine life takes over the reef.

• Ras Gamila: groupers hide under table corals
• Ras Bob: swim-throughs and reef ledges
• Ras Za’atar: overhangs and caves
• Ras Ghazlani: sloping reef
• Shark Observatory: wall dive where groupers patrol ledges
• Jackfish Alley: caves and sandy patches where groupers hunt
And, of course, Ras Mohammed National Park is the top area.

Tip: check under ledges, inside caves; early morning or late afternoon dives give the best chances.
