"Questa splendida statuina lignea raffigura Niankhpepi, detto “Il Nero”, governatore del XIV distretto dell’Alto Egitto durante il regno di Pepi I (VI dinastia, 2289–2255 a.C.).
È stata rinvenuta nella sua tomba a Quse, capitale regionale, e racconta un momento cruciale della storia egizia: l’inizio della frammentazione del potere centrale.
Con la sua parrucca corta, il gonnellino bianco e uno zaino elegantissimo fissato con una fascia al collo, Niankhpepi porta anche un raffinato cestino decorato con un moderno motivo a losanghe.
Il tutto è realizzato con colori vividi ed equilibrio perfetto tra stile e funzione."

"This splendid wooden statuette portrays Niankhpepi, known as "The Black", governor of the 14th district of Upper Egypt during the reign of Pepi I (6th Dynasty, 2289–2255 BCE).
It was discovered in his tomb in Quse, the regional capital, and tells the story of a pivotal moment in Egyptian history: the beginning of the fragmentation of central power.
Wearing a short wig, a simple white kilt, and an elegant backpack secured with a strap around his neck, Niankhpepi also carries a refined basket adorned with a modern-looking diamond pattern.
The entire piece is crafted with vivid colors and a perfect balance of style and function."
