The ICAO Middle East Regional Office was established in Cairo, Egypt, in 1953.

This Regional Office encompasses 15 member States: Bahrain, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Continuous improvement in global aviation safety and security is fundamental to ensuring air transport continues to play a major role in driving sustainable economic and social deve

lopment around the world. A safe, secure, economically viable and environmentally friendly air transport system is the ultimate goal of ICAO and its Member States. ICAO MID Office closely liaises with the States of accreditation and with appropriate organizations, Regional civil aviation bodies and sub-regional bodies and UN Agencies and programmes operating in the Region. The ICAO MID Office ensures interregional coordination and promotes the timely and harmonized implementation of ICAO Strategic Objectives, policies and decisions, as well as Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and the MID Air Navigation Plan (ANP) provisions. The ICAO MID Office coordinates and provides required assistance and capacity building activities for establishing and maintaining a coordinated and high performance air navigation system aiming at a safe, orderly and efficient air transport, which validates effective implementation of ICAO’s international standards. ICAO MID Office endeavors to meet the challenges in this expanding region with a goal to provide the highest level of safety, security, efficiency and to achieve a sustainable and environment friendly growth of international civil aviation.

🪪 The ICAO Behaviour Detection Course, held in Muscat from 8 to 12 February 2026, has successfully concluded.

The course reflects ICAO's ongoing commitment to safe and secure skies. Aviation security professionals from the region enhanced their competencies in behaviour-detection techniques, thereby strengthening proactive threat mitigation and operational effectiveness.

MID-RASFG/5 Concludes Successfully in Doha ✈️

The Fifth Meeting of the Middle East Regional Aviation Security & Facilitation Group (MID-RASFG/5) from 3-5 February 2026, wrapped up in Doha, hosted by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. Over three days, 45 participants from 8 States, 3 international organizations, and industry bodies discussed regional aviation security and facilitation challenges, sharing best practices and innovative solutions.

The meeting strengthened collaboration frameworks to enhance passenger and cargo movement while maintaining top-level security standards, thereby supporting safer and more efficient across the Middle East.

🌍✈️ ICAO is convening a series of important regional activities in Amman, Jordan, bringing together over 60 participants from air navigation service providers (ANSPs), regulatory authorities, instrument flight procedure (IFP) designers, flight validation experts, and industry partners.

From 7 to 9 December, the IFP Provision and Safety Oversight Workshop is strengthening States’ capabilities in the development, implementation, and oversight of instrument flight procedures, supporting enhanced operational safety and airspace efficiency.

This will be followed on 10 and 11 December by the 10th Meeting of the MIDANPIRG Performance-Based Navigation Sub-Group (PBN SG/10), which will focus on regional PBN implementation, harmonization, and planning in alignment with ICAO’s Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP).

These activities underscore ICAO’s commitment to building State capacity, fostering collaboration, and advancing modernized navigation services across the Middle East Region.
