There are so many incredible places beyond the destinations everyone talks about. β¨
China π¨π³ was one of them for me. π
Before my first visit, I expected something completely different.
What I found instead was a fascinating mix of ancient traditions and modern daily life.
Peaceful temples, mountain landscapes, small villages, huge cities full of lights and a culture shaped by thousands of years of history. π«
One of the things that surprised me most was how quickly everyday life started to feel easy.
WeChat and Alipay are used for almost everything, local map apps work far better than Google Maps, and once you learn a few basics, getting around becomes surprisingly straightforward. π«Ά
But what stayed with me most wasn't the technology.
It was the feeling of constantly discovering something new β whether in the food, the culture, the history or the way everyday life works.
Sharing meals around large round tables, seeing how traditions still influence daily life, and learning about a culture where using every part of an ingredient has long been part of reducing waste and showing respect for resources were all fascinating experiences in their own way. π€
And while the lights of Shanghai are absolutely worth seeing, China is so much more than skyscrapers, crowds and busy city streets.
You don't need to travel across the entire country to find completely different landscapes, cultures and experiences.
Some of the most memorable places can be found surprisingly close to the major cities.
China remains one of the most fascinating and surprisingly underrated destinations I've visited. π€
