The Hieleros Weight Speed event (often listed in official records as Hieleros Weight Speed 27K) is one of the most demanding, unique, and representative challenges of the Cayambe Ice Carriers, as it combines high-altitude effort with the dynamic transport of loads, simulating the historic craft of ice harvesting from the volcano. Nature of the challenge: It's not a conventional speed race on asphalt, but a combined medium/long-distance trail running test (around 27 kilometers) over paramo and mid-mountain terrain, with the particular twist of carrying weight. The load component: Participants have to carry blocks of ice (or special containers that replicate the traditional weight and dynamics) along specific sections or the set route, testing both cardiovascular endurance on steep climbs and technical agility to avoid losing balance on uneven trails. Logistics and organization

Since it’s one of the toughest and most physically demanding competitions of the event due to the combination of altitude, distance, and load: Age range: It’s mainly aimed at the open category and performance divisions (usually from 18 years old and up), covering athletes in full physical and endurance capacity (it’s usually divided into ranges like Senior and experienced extreme sports or trail running competitors). Gender: It includes participation from both men and women.
