POST 1️⃣ | When Is The Best Time To Visit?

Question: What's the best month to visit Galápagos?

The answer may surprise you...

🌴 There is no bad time to visit!
Wildlife is active year-round.
Different times of the year have different characteristics:

☀️ December–May:
Warmer weather
Calmer seas
Warmer water
Great for families and casual snorkelers

🌊 June–November:
Cooler weather
Richer marine life
More active sea lions and penguins
Better whale sightings

💡 Local Tip:
Choose your trip based on what you want to see—not the weather.

What’s your priority on your trip? Warm water, marine life, whale sightings, or something else?

POST 3️⃣ | Cruise or Land-Based?

Question: Which is better? Cruise or land-based tours?

Answer: Both can be fantastic! They’re just different.

🚢 Cruise Advantages:
Reach remote islands most visitors never see
More comfortable during rough-water months
Everything planned for you
Best access to many iconic wildlife sites

🏝️ Land-Based Advantages:
Sleep on shore every night
Enjoy local restaurants and island towns
Great for families and travelers prone to seasickness
More flexibility and free time

💡 Local Tip:
Many of our favorite itineraries combine both!

POST 4️⃣ | Is Galápagos Good for Kids?

Question: Is Galápagos a good destination for kids?

Answer: Absolutely! 🐢🦎🦈

Many children leave Galápagos saying it's the best trip they've ever taken.

Why? There are...
Giant tortoises roaming freely
Playful sea lions swimming beside you
Baby sharks visible from island docks
Marine iguanas everywhere
Easy snorkeling with colorful fish
Lava tunnels and volcanic landscapes that feel like another planet

💡 Local Tip:
The best age isn't a specific number—it's when your child loves animals, nature, and adventure.

A few things that parents should bring:
Sun protection
Closed-toe shoes
Any medications from home
Proper-fitting life jacket for younger children

Some of our favorite family experiences:
Giant Tortoise Ranches
Shark viewing at the Santa Cruz Fish Market & Pier
Lava Tunnels
Bartolomé Island
Co**ha de Perla Snorkeling

What would your kids be the most excited to see?

POST 5️⃣ | Which Island Should First-Time Visitors Choose?

Question: "If I only have time for one island for a land-based tour, which should I visit?"

Answer: That's like asking us to choose a favorite child! 😄 Here are some features of each:

🏝️ Santa Cruz:
Best all-around first island
Giant tortoises
Largest breeding center & renovated natural history museum
Lava tunnels
Largest selection day tours to uninhabited islands
Great restaurants, shopping and hotels

🌋 Isabela:
Most dramatic scenery
Volcano hiking
Beautiful beach steps away
Sand main street-relaxed atmosphere
Excellent snorkeling
Galapagos penguins & flamingos

🦭 San Cristóbal:
Most sea lions
Small beach choices easy walk from town
"Goldilocks" laid-back vibe with lots restaurants
Great snorkeling
Chance to see hammerhead sharks

💡 Local Tip:
For most first-time visitors, we recommend combining at least two islands if you have at least a week. If you have 2 weeks, a three-island based tour will keep surprising you each day with something you haven't seen/done! (Like our Founder Expeditions at www.GalapagosLocalTours.com/trips)

Each island has its own personality—and that's part of the magic of Galápagos.

Did you have a favorite island? Or is one at the top of your bucket list?

POST 7️⃣ | Do I Need a Wetsuit?

Question: "Do I need a wetsuit?"

Answer: Usually, yes. But you probably don't need to bring one. 😄

Water temperatures range roughly 65–77°F (18–25°C).
Colder water usually means more marine life.
Luckily, most tour operators rent wetsuits and can reserve one in advance.

⚠️ Ask early for children's sizes or very large sizes.

💡 Local Tip:
Even guests from colder climates are often glad they wore a wetsuit after an hour of snorkeling.

Are you a wetsuit or rash guard person, or are you being bold and starting cold?

QUESTION 8️⃣ | How Much Should I Tip?

Question: "How does tipping work in Galápagos?"

Answer: Here's how!
Guides and boat crews are usually tipped separately.
Guides typically receive tips directly.
Crew members often share pooled tips among the team.
Exceptional service from hotel staff, drivers, or restaurant servers is always appreciated.

💡 Local Tip:Tipping is appreciated, not required. Most visitors tip based on the quality of their experience.

What is an outstanding service you’ve received on a past trip?

QUESTION 9️⃣ | Should I Pre-Book Tours?

Question: "Should I book tours before I arrive?"

Answer: Usually, yes.

Why?
National Park permits limit how many boats can visit each site.
Popular tours like Bartolomé and Española often sell out first.
If you only have 5–7 days, you don't want to spend vacation time hunting for availability.
Slower seasons offer more flexibility, but availability doesn't always equal quality or safety.

💡 Local Tip:
Book your "must-do" tours before you land. Leave a day or two open for spontaneous adventures.

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Bartolomé, Española, Kicker Rock, or something else?
