A little something fun for summer vacation! This was inspired by my colleague Bente's sommerfrokost-quiz at work, and I thought it was so fun, I asked to share it. I think there are six more on my list! Any ideas what they might be? Look up fixed expressions with 'tråde' in Den Danske Ordbog for a good start!

I've been enjoying knitting so much over the last year and or two. I slowly make progress and learn new skills with every project. And I make mistakes too (which I am all too aware of, but which nobody else probably notices).

Learning to knit (or any new skill) reminds me a lot of learning Danish. Slow progress, mistakes throughout, you notice more than anyone else, and you have to challenge yourself to grow 🌱

It took me a little while to post because we were on vacation in Jylland (more on that soon!), but I am finally sharing a bit about my visit to Rebild Bakkerne. Tusind tak til Rebild National Park Society for oplevelsen. Det var både en fornøjelse og en ære at være med. Everyone there was so lovely and warm and it gave me a renewed sense of hope in the bigger picture and in each other.

My speech was too long to share all of but I've shared some parts in quotes for people who responded that they were curious to hear it.

I have never read Bibi, and it's been ages since I've read/watched Pippi so fill in all the details! Who is Bibi really?

Authors were Astrid Lindgren - Pippi (first published 1945) and Karin Michaëlis - Bibi (series published 1929-1939)

I think there is a lot more to reach up on: Karin Michaëlis was personally impacted by WW2 and lived in exile in the US during the war. Meanwhile after 1945 as the anti-authoritarian movement grew, Astrid Lindgren's book took off. Historians, jump into the conversation!

This is my last post about Folkemødet! Thanks for your patience -- as it's a little out of date now. It's been a busy month, I know a lot of you can relate!

The quizmaster is back!

You may remember Birk from our video on 'blandinavisk' - the shared mashup when Danes, Swedes and Norwegians try to communicate together. 

Today he has a quiz of pseudo-English words -- Danish words that look English but aren't actually what English speakers would say. Henrik Gottlieb is a researcher in this area if you want to look up more of these words -- and we thank him for his resources used in our hyggesnak! 

Can you think of other examples? 

💫 PS - I've done my best with English subtitles here to try to reach everyone. Our 'blanding' of dansk and engelsk really confused the automatic subtitles. Hope you can follow along! ☺️

☀️ Hyldeblomstsaft og strawberry shortcake - den ene minder mig om lyse nætter, dukkerter i havet og den danske sommer, den anden minder mig om min barndom, picnics og ildfluer på lune sommeraftener.

Jeg brugte Valdemarsro-opsriften til hyldeblomstsaft og Sally's Baking Addiction-opskriften til strawberry shortcake.

This weekend has been such a gift, hasn't it?
