Wondering what “fastelavnsboller” are? 🤔
Let’s start with a short story then.
Fastelavn is a tradition in Denmark, which has its roots in the Roman Catholic custom and it is celebrated 7 weeks before Easter Day, which means that this year Fastelavn will be on the 27th of February.
In the old days, this was a feast that included a lot of alcohol, barrel hitting and cat killing. 🍻🐈⬛
Yeah, you read that right.. 🙈😅
Fastelavn is a combination of Halloween and Carnival, and nowadays it’s a celebration mostly for children, where they get to dress up in costumes and hit a barrel with candy until it breaks and the candy falls off. 🤩
However, another important tradition related to this celebration is eating Fastelavnsboller, which are sweet buns that are usually filled with cream or jam. And we are telling you, they are delicious! 🤤
Already now in January, bakeries, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets started selling these delicious pastries, and if you are in Copenhagen around this period, you should not miss them.
That’s why we decided to ask Copenhagen’s residents where can we find the best Fastelavnsboller in town and we came up with a top 5 list. 😍
You can find both traditional and modern versions of these pastries, and we advice you to try them all. 🥮🧡
