Roman Borisov lit up Victoria Concert Hall with a performance full of energy, character and remarkable musical depth – captivating the audience with three masterpieces: Beethoven’s Pathétique, Schumann’s Humoreske, and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Sonata No. 2.

Part of the European Sound Piano Concerts, the evening showed just how powerfully music can connect artists and audiences across continents.

A pupil of Franz Liszt and one of the leading interpreters of Beethoven in the early 20th century, Frederic Lamond was celebrated for his powerful artistry and international concert career.

Throughout his career, he sought instruments that could match the depth, clarity, and expressive range of his performances. His admiration for C. Bechstein was unmistakable:

“Your instruments meet all the requirements I have for a perfect concert instrument; that is why I always prefer to play your grand pianos.”

More than a virtuoso, Lamond was also a respected teacher and author whose writings offer a rare firsthand glimpse into Liszt's artistry and the golden age of Romantic piano playing. He passed away in 1948, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire pianists around the world.
