As crazy as it may seem to many Germans, I don’t have a bike (I can see some of you rolling your eyes out loud 😉). Yet. I’m definitely planning to buy one, honest ! I just keep postponing. But recently I had a real need for a bike and quickly found out I could rent one. I’m not talking about the various city bikes you can find anywhere and leave again anywhere, but about a « proper » rent for a few hours a day, or even several days. 🚴‍♀️
I found Frankfurt Bike Tour in Sachsenhausen. Understanding the opening hours was a bit tricky, as the website, page, and sign on their door all give different opening hours. Apart from that, I must say I was very happy with them : very good service, the person I saw spoke English, which helped, and I really appreciated the flexibility they offered. Most bikes were rented until early afternoon, but as I only needed mine precisely from the afternoon on, we arranged so I could come and pick up the bike after the opening hours. Returning the bike can be done anytime. This, I must say, was a big Plus point. As I came at the last minute, all the e-bikes were already reserved, but I got a very decent city bike instead, and paid a cheap 19€ for a 24h-rental. You can also ask for accessories (helmet, bags, etc)
All in all, a very good experience, and a very good solution when you want to bike a bit during a weekend, but still don’t want to (or can’t) invest in buying you own Fahrrad. I’d recommend to plan and pre-book if you can, especially if you want an e-bike, and especially for a weekend (even more when the weather forecast is warm and suny : everyone goes biking !). Also, they seem to offer city tours by bike (hence their name 😉). I haven’t looked into it in details, but it can be a good thing to check out (ok, it’s now on my to-do list 😁).
