🇬🇧 English below

If you walk past St. Mary's Church in Lübeck, you might easily miss a smiling little devil.
Yet it is worth stopping for a moment, as he is the main character of an old Lübeck legend. According to the story, the builders tricked the devil into believing they were building a tavern rather than a church. Delighted, the devil helped with the construction, hauling huge stones to the site. However, when he realized he had been deceived, he picked up a massive granite block to smash the church. In the end, the locals managed to appease him by promising that a real tavern would be built nearby. So the devil put the stone down and, according to legend, has been sitting on it ever since, smiling contentedly. The stone can still be seen next to the church, and during the Christmas market, mulled w**e is served right beside it.
