Here is the latest news:
✅ Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiography)
No significant signs of structural heart disease, systolic or diastolic dysfunction, or hemodynamic abnormalities were detected.
However, two linear hyperechoic structures, most likely heartworms (Heartworm Ag+), were visualized in the right branch of the pulmonary artery and in the main pulmonary artery. At this time, they are not causing any vascular obstruction.
Treatment has been prescribed.
✅ Abdominal Ultrasound
No structural abnormalities of the abdominal organs were detected at the time of examination.
✅ Infectious Disease ELISA Test
Canine heartworm antigens were detected.
✅ Complete Blood Count, Blood Biochemistry, and Urinalysis
All results are within normal ranges.
✅ Histopathology Results of the Mammary Gland Mass
Most of the submitted tissue consisted of a cystic lesion filled with purulent content. Signs of inflammation and an area of intraductal mammary papilloma were identified.
Most importantly, no signs of malignancy were found in the examined tissue.
✅ Ovaries Left Behind After the Previous "Spay" Surgery
This was the most difficult news to receive 💔
It turned out that during the surgery performed in January 2022, only Nancy’s uterus was removed, while both ovaries were left intact. These ovaries continued producing hormones and likely contributed to the development of her mammary gland problems.
On 06.06.2026, Nancy underwent a second surgery — an ovariohysterectomy — during which both ovaries were successfully removed.
Post-operative treatment includes:
💊 Antibiotics for 7 days;
💊 Pain medication for 3 days.
🙏 Overall, Nancy is doing well.
Right now, the most important thing is proper healing of her surgical incision. Due to the previous mastectomy, the skin on her abdomen is under significant tension, so the recovery period requires special attention and care.
The next stage will be heartworm treatment.
