🚆 35 YEARS IN MOTION.

Today at Rail Business Days 2026 in Ostrava, METRANS officially introduced its anniversary locomotive celebrating 35 years of the company’s journey through European intermodal transport. 🎉

The locomotive represents more than technology and rail operations.

It is a tribute to the people behind METRANS - employees, partners, and everyone who has helped shape the company over the past 35 years. 👷‍♂️⚙️

From the first milestones to today’s international network, we remain grateful for the trust, cooperation, and shared journey that continues to move forward. 🤝

METRANS IS EXPANDING ITS TERMINAL IN GĄDKI. 🚆⚙️

A major infrastructure project is currently underway at the METRANS terminal in Gądki near Poznań, Poland.

The expansion is designed to strengthen terminal capacity, improve cargo flows, and support more efficient intermodal operations in one of Central Europe’s important logistics regions.

The project has now entered a key final stage, with two modern electric RMG cranes equipped with Remote Operation System technology being lifted and installed. Construction is approximately 90% complete, with major infrastructure already in place:

✅ 750-meter-long rail tracks for train unloading fully completed
✅ Most yard surfaces, internal terminal roads, and the crane track completed
✅ Camera gates installed at truck entry and exit points, as well as at the rail gate
✅ Railway and container scales installed and commissioned

Launched in June 2025, the project is scheduled for completion on 31 July 2026.

Once completed, the expanded terminal will deliver greater handling capacity, faster container handling, and more efficient train and truck operations, further strengthening METRANS’ position in Central Europe. 🌍

Project “Improving the efficiency of intermodal transport services through the expansion of the METRANS (Polonia) sp. z o.o. terminal infrastructure in Gądki near Poznań” co-financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO).

📌🚆 BEHIND THE TERMINAL: WHAT IT REALLY TAKES TO KEEP OPERATIONS MOVING

Intermodal logistics is often measured in trains, containers, and volumes.
But behind every movement, there are people who keep the system running.

In this video, Petra Petrášová, a crane operator at METRANS, shares what daily operations actually look like inside a high-performance terminal.

Her perspective highlights something essential.
Running an intermodal network is not only about infrastructure and technology, but also about precision, responsibility, and the ability to operate under constant change.

From handling modern equipment to making real-time decisions, this role requires more than technical skills. It requires focus, consistency, and trust in the system.

An inside look at the people who make rail logistics work every single day.

EUROPEAN INTERMODAL IS ENTERING A NEW ERA OF EXPANSION. 🌍🚆

METRANS Group continues to strengthen its presence across Europe through new terminal developments, increased capacity, and strategic infrastructure investments. ⚙️

From Hungary and Serbia to Romania and Austria, multiple projects are already expanding the reach and flexibility of the METRANS network. 📍

The focus remains clear:
✔️ stronger rail connectivity
✔️ higher operational capacity
✔️ faster cargo flows
✔️ more efficient terminal operations

With more than 20 terminals, 190 locomotives, and over 4,000 container wagons, METRANS continues to support the growing shift toward intermodal rail transport across Europe. 🚂

Because modern logistics is no longer defined only by movement.
It is defined by connectivity, efficiency, and long-term infrastructure strategy. ⚡

Different roles. Different responsibilities. One network moving across Europe every day. 🌍

Because intermodal logistics is not only about trains, terminals, or containers.

It is about the people behind every operation. ⚙️

This illustrated world was created to remind us of something important:

Every role helps keep METRANS in motion.

WHERE THE PASSION FOR RAIL BEGINS 🚆🖤

Rušňoparáda 2026 once again brought together historic locomotives, modern rail technology, and thousands of railway enthusiasts in Košice. 🚄✨

METRANS was proud to be part of the event, presenting the Siemens Vectron 383 442 locomotive featuring a special livery created for the 140th anniversary of our parent company, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG. 🔵

Events like these continue to inspire future generations and remind us that rail is more than transport alone - it is engineering, movement, and a passion shared across the industry. 🌍

🌍 WHEN GEOGRAPHY IS NOT ENOUGH: WHY EUROPE NEEDS SMARTER RAIL PRICING 🚆

In rail freight, distance should matter. But in practice, the reality can look very different.

In some cases, a train routed through Austria can be significantly longer than a route through Slovakia, yet be more cost efficent. This is often driven by differences in track access charges, energy costs, and national tariff structures.

As market dynamics continue to shift, operational decisions are increasingly influenced not only by demand, but also by the way the system is structured.

This creates a structural challenge.
Routing decisions are not always driven by operational efficiency or sustainability, but by how pricing frameworks are set.

At METRANS, we see this as part of a broader discussion about how rail is positioned within the European transport system.

Rail delivers clear benefits:
✔️ Lower emissions
✔️ Reduced congestion
✔️ Greater energy efficiency

Aligning pricing frameworks with these benefits is an important step toward strengthening rail’s role in intermodal logistics and supporting the long-term modal shift from road to rail.
