⚔️40. Výročí operace URGENT FURY ⚔️

25. října v 05:30 začala, na ostrově Grenada, vzdušným výsadkem 1. praporu, 75. pluku Rangers operace Urgent Fury. Jednotky Rangers překonali počáteční odpor a do 10:00 vyčistili přistávací plochu.

Kolem 14:00 přistáli na letišti první letouny s příslušníky 325. výsadkového pluku, 82. výsadkové divize. Na bojiště dorazili právě včas, aby Rangerům pomohli odrazit protiútok tří BTR-60, Grenadské lidové armády.

Později téhož dne, na místo dorazil 505. výsadkový pluk, 82. výsadkové divize. Ten se přesunul jižně od letiště Point Salines, kde se zapojil do pátrání po amerických studentech.

505. výsadkovy pluk, poté provedl vrtulníkový výsadek na severu ostrova a povedlo se jim zajmout vůdce komunistického povstání Hudsona Austina.
Boje skončili 29. října, bylo zajištěno letiště Point Salines, nalezeni byli všichni američtí studenti, zabaveno bylo velké množství zbraní sovětské a československé provenience.

Vysadkáři se na ostrově potýkaly s mnoha problémy, například nebyli vybaveni kvalitními mapami, ale turistickými průvodci. Nové bavlněné uniformy ve vzoru Woodland, byli pro operace v Karibiku naprosto nevhodné, dále se nedostávalo granátů a dýmovnic. Výsadkářům byl vyčítán i pomalý postup, nicméně pravdou zůstává, že byl metodický, bylo objeveno spoustu skrýší zbraní, čímž se omezili i možnosti pro případné povstání.

⚔️40. Anniversary of operation URGENT FURY ⚔️

On October 25, at 05:30, Operation Urgent Fury began, on the island of Grenada, with the airborne landing of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Ranger units overcame initial resistance and cleared the airstrip by 10:00.

Around 14:00, the first planes with members of the 325th Airborne Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division landed at the airport. They arrived on the battlefield just in time to help the Rangers repel a counterattack by three Grenada People's Army BTR-60s.

Later that day, the 505th Airborne Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, arrived on the scene. He moved south from the Point Salines airport, where he joined the search for American students.

505th Airborne Regiment, then carried out a helicopter landing in the north of the island and managed to capture the leader of the communist rebellion, Hudson Austin.

The fighting ended on October 29, the Point Salines airport was secured, all the American students were found, and a large number of weapons of Soviet and Czechoslovakian origin were confiscated.

The paratroopers faced many problems on the island, for example, they were not equipped with quality maps, but tourist guides. The new cotton uniforms in the Woodland pattern were completely unsuitable for operations in the Caribbean, and grenades and smoke bombs were also not available. The paratroopers were also blamed for the slow progress, however the truth remains that it was methodical, a lot of weapon caches were discovered, thus limiting the possibilities for a possible uprising.
