With his many years of experience in navigation and shipbuilding, Roger & Georges Dherlin at early 80s founded the Apex line of boats and shipyard repair & support in the USA. Beyond the technical experience, he brings an understanding of user needs he contacted every day and a global network of partners and friends. In the 90s, as a growing demand, it was necessary to increase production while controlling costs, so he decided to install a new plant in Costa Rica where the work force is educated, motivated and reliable.
After six months of research, based on historical weather from the airport station, he decided to locate the plant in La Garita (located in the Central Valley, close to the capital, to facilitate the logistics). This place is recognized by National Geographic, as the second best climate in the world (altitude and dry microclimate combination gives us a relatively low humidity), atmospheric pressure compresses the remaining moisture in the soil, for working at less than 75% moisture, which is essential for the bonding process.
Our factory is located in a space of 20,000 m2 with an indoor 6 000 m2 infrastructures and very high ceilings for ventilation.

Our boats in fiberglass have minimal maintenance compared to other materials such as steel or aluminum, which suffer enormous problems of corrosion and electrolysis almost uncontrollable depending on the places and levels of chemical pollution / electric. Also, aluminum is a highly heat conductive material, at the time of soldering, it is recommended to remove the tubes and there is always a risk of affecting the electrical & electronic system or other essential parts of the structure of vessel more susceptible to heat.
Following our previous experience in the construction and maintenance of metal boats, we recommend only for large living units where ongoing maintenance is performed. Fiberglass vessels are easily repairable while those aluminum or steel require a more sophisticated and unusual tools.

Manufacture of boat hulls
The deck is built by hand with the finest resins and we only use the isoftalique gelcoat (the best on the market) to prevent osmosis and gel coat damages. The nonskid is integrated into the mold which allows intensive use (very popular with professionals) without ever having to replace it.
We do not use wood for the longitudinal and transversal stringers; they come directly from the mold and then are reinforced in the final process for full integration. The deck is assembled to the hull with flexible fiberglass to absorb shocks, vibration and movement during navigation… Using these advanced techniques, our boats offer strength, lightness and durability for many years with minimum maintenance.
Quality of the electrical circuit
The individual cables are made of tinned copper lines before forming the complete cable. Also, the electrical terminals are welded and thermally insulated, which protects them from one end to the other against corrosion, ensuring us an operational circuit for many years.
We are one of the few manufacturers to equip our boats with this type of electric installation. All switches and fuses are protected and isolated according to IP standards.

Apex curves
Our biggest difference is in the back of our tubes, is not in the form of long cones, it is rounded. It is more expensive and reduces the overall length, but maximizes the useful space, while allowing a full protection, as explained above.
Mastery of the flotation
Our system of self-bailing hull, for all our models from 5.5 meters and up, makes a self-emptying at the stop without need switching on the of a pump, thus avoiding, in case of heavy rain, the battery discharges or the boat sinks!
