When the S.A van der Stel was built in 1965, she represented the high end, a type of Ship that had ruled the world of Merchant navy for about a century, but which importance was about to fade: the break bulk or general Cargo carrier. The Cargo bay was structured to accommodate goods parked in smaller containers such as crates, sacks or barrels. Actually, the basic design of this ship had been around since the 19th century.
