Fried Seafood Empanada at Santiago's Central Fish Market

I made my bi-weekly visit today to Santiago’s Central Fish Market. Built in 1872 It has been named one of National Geographic’s top ten food markets worldwide. Located in downtown Santiago, in the hustle and bustle of daily city life in Chile’s, this buzzing fish market is home to many restaurants populated with tourists and Chileans alike, as well as fishmongers selling seafood recently arrived from the coast to locals.

A visit requires walking down the rows of vendors chopping, gutting, weighing and wrapping all kinds of weird and wonderful fish in fast motion and then being ushered in 3 directions by different restaurateurs speaking 4 different languages. I go there to buy my week’s supply of fresh fish and to eat my favorite - fried seafood empanadas which are stuffed with fish, crab, clams and shrimp. Another day in my Paradise, Santiago, Chile.
