Just untied from Westport, Washington this morning.
I'm chasing tuna off the Washington & Oregon coast, hoping to bring some back for our weekly markets this winter.

The boat is getting switched over for hook and line albacore tuna fishing. My first trip!

Weather buoys provide us fishermen and mariners with real-time information on wind wave height and period, sea surface temperature, and more. They're a great aid to our decision-making while at sea.

For the sea lions, they provide a nice offshore spot to hang out and relax.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out for our grand opening party 🙏

We were blown away by the support! We estimated over 200 people stopped in throughout the event😮🎉

We had incredible help from family, friends, and even some of our talented market friends (Claudio and Susan) who surprised us with a fabulous musical performance 🎸🎶🎻

The goal of this event was simple: make it fun so that we'd want to do it again. After talking with friends and family, the verdict is in — we had fun 😊

So, we're doing it again!🥳

One and a half years in the making!

Between my fishing seasons, Annina's work, raising a family, and keeping our regular markets going, this long transition period is finally almost over.

With the help of family, friends, great contractors, lots of pallets, some old barn wood and many late nights, we've now renovated an old bottling warehouse into our new production kitchen, cold storage hall, and retail space.

It's all coming together!

We made a new round of Annina's Seafood Chowder for the markets this week!

50 liters of our homemade wild fish bouillon +
30 kg of our raw and smoked fish,
10kg of carrots,
10 kg of potatoes,
6 kg kg of leak,
some cream,
white wine,
flour,
onions,
a little butter and
a few twists of salt and pepper

Those sea otters sure seem to enjoy life.
We see them all summer along the Southeast Alaska coast where I fish-tons of them.

In past centuries, they were nearly wiped out by overhunting, but 20th-century conservation efforts have allowed them to bounce back in most areas.

Saturday night in Pelican, the biggest show in town is the school of wild salmon fry pooled up next to the dock. My friend and fishing buddy Courtney is sharing some fish philosophy with his deckhand Matt.

These wild salmon fry will go to the ocean, where they’ll spend several years before returning to their home creek to spawn.
