Did you know?
Varroa is the biggest natural threat to the honey bee? If you magnify a varroa mite in relation to a human, it would be the size of a rabbit. 🐇🤯
Originally, the varroa mite comes from South East Asia and lived in coexistence with the Eastern Honey Bee, Apis Cerana, in such a way that they found a way to outlive a varroa infestation. For example, they are able to smell varroa in a cell which is why they wouldn’t cap those cells or even pull the larvae with the varroa out of it. The bees also adapted their development time >>Their bees develop in only 18 days compared to 21 days. By doing so the varroa can multiply less in the cells. 💪👀
When the Trans-Siberian Railway was built, 🚆🚞 south eastern bees were transported to Russia where the Varroa Mite infested the local bees. From there the mite spread nearly around the globe. Only Australia has not yet been affected by the mite....
🤯🤯🤯 The more you know, right?!
