Meet Chad, Dornier 228 and Shorts Skyvan First Officer at Summit Air.

Inspired by his parents’ careers in aviation, Chad always knew he wanted to fly. Two years ago, he joined Summit Air through our Pilot-in-Waiting program as a Flight Follower. He then moved into the right seat of the Dornier 228, and has since transitioned to England, supporting our UK-based operations flying the Shorts Skyvan.

While based in the UK, he supports specialist parachute training and display operations alongside military teams and renowned display groups. His flying takes him across the UK and Europe, from complex controlled airspace, major international airports and military airfields to small grass strips.

With only a handful of Skyvans still flying worldwide, the opportunity to operate one professionally for Canadian pilots is increasingly rare.

For Chad, the most rewarding part of the role is the travel.

From scheduled Foreign Object Debris (FOD) walks on airside ramps to the use of our integrated Safety Management System (SMS), ground crews complete countless checks and procedures each day to support safe and efficient operations.

Their commitment and attention to detail help keep our operations running safely and efficiently, day in and day out.

Summit Air recently partnered with Snow Dog Rescue Society to transport seven pups to BC, bringing them one step closer to their forever homes.

This effort would not have been possible without the dedication of the volunteers, fosters, and our teams in Yellowknife and Vancouver who worked together to help bring these dogs to BC months sooner than would have otherwise been possible.

We're grateful to have played a small role in this new chapter for Lunah, Marco, Timber, Belle, Niko, Joey and Nauuq! 💙✈️🐾

This Summer, we celebrated 12 years since the inception of Summit Air Kitikmeot.

Founded in 2014, the Summit Air Kitikmeot partnership was established between the Summit Aviation Group and local stakeholders in the Kitikmeot region, with a shared goal of providing safe, reliable, and customized aviation services to clients within the region.

Over the past 12 years, this partnership has supported the movement of passengers and freight throughout the territory, helping connect communities, clients, and remote industrial projects across the North.

Meet Michell, AVRO RJ First Officer at Summit Air!

Michell started on the ground as a pilot-in-waiting, working as a crew scheduler. Today, she’s a First Officer on the Avro RJ, double-rated on both the Dash 8 and RJ, flying in some of Canada’s most unique and challenging environments.

“No two days are ever the same,” she says. “From landing on gravel strips or flying into busy airspace, the variety keeps you sharp.”

For Michell, the most rewarding part of the role is the people.

“The crews I work with, from Captains and AMEs to flight attendants and the teams behind the scenes, bring so much knowledge and experience. I’ve grown not just as a pilot, but as a person.”

Reflecting on her experience at Summit Air, Michell points to the people and opportunities as what set it apart:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of three members of the wildfire aviation community near Fort Simpson.

On behalf of Summit Aviation, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the Buffalo Airways pilot and NWT Fire personnel.

While we may wear different uniforms, we share the same skies and the same commitment to serving northern communities.

As members of the Northwest Territories aviation community, heartbreaking losses like this impact all of us.
