JULY 10, 2026: Today, with permission from his family, we pay tribute to Buffalo Airways pilot Robert MacLeod and honour his life, his service, and all that he contributed to Canadian aviation. Robert lost his life in the line of duty on June 24, 2026.

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the loss of one of our Aerial Firefighting pilots while actioning a forest fire west of Fort Simpson.

First responders have confirmed the fatalities of the three members onboard today.

Alongside the GNWT Dept of Environment and Climate Change, we are mourning heros who were fighting in the line of duty.

In the coming days we will honour our fallen in close consultation with their family.

Until then our priority is to support the rest of our aerial firefighting teams who remain on duty, family, friends, and industry partners affected by this loss.

As we continue to work closely with the RCMP, Transportation Safety Board and the GNWT, we ask you to respect the privacy of staff in the weeks ahead.

On June 24, 2026, A Buffalo Airways Turbo Commander 690 aircraft, operating as a Bird Dog during wildfire operations, was involved in an incident.

Buffalo Airways is working closely with Transport Canada, the Transportation Safety Board, the RCMP, and the GNWT Department of Environment and Climate Change.

At this time, we do not have any further updates to provide. We ask that our crews and our company be given the space needed to support the investigation.
